Madame Sousou - Fitzroy

Elegant, charming, intimate are some of the words I would use to describe Madame Sousou.

Quintessentially Parisian entering the restaurant one could be forgiven for thinking that they were actually in the French capital.

$29 for a wine with an entree and main or main and dessert? What a bargain.My quick lunch break turned into a 3 hour lazy afternoon..

Bonjour! Avez-vous été dans ce restaurant français?I would like to say I speak French, but that was all through Google translate! This absolute gorgeous French gem will have you feeling like you have been transported to France with their traditional French decor and French staff. The food is absolutely incredible. I’m not an expert of French cuisine but I sure have high standards after eating here. The baked Camembert was super creamy and full of flavour. Then we had the Steak Tartare starter, along with Salmon Rillettes. Our mains were beautiful. Gnocchi in butter and truffle sauce with burnt sage and a gorgeous fish of the day. Would highly recommend booking a table for dinner or lunch for a great way to catch up with friends/family or for celebrations!

So glad that Sousou is back and was so excited to dine here at its new location on Gertrude. I’ve always loved and appreciated the French vintage decor of this place with the soft orange glow from the lamps, the dark wooden panelling and leather seats, and awesome bar. <br/ <br/ We ordered to share the Charcuterie board, French onion soup and Steak Frites and it was all delicious. The wait staff are so friendly and warm and we truly appreciated the advice of the gentleman waiter on our dishes when we over ordered and he informed us to reconsider due to sizing. Best advice ever as we were already feeling stuffed half way through our second dish and we hadn’t even signalled for the steak to come out yet! But it was still a wonderful and cosy afternoon as they don’t close between lunch and dinner, so it really did feel like a lovely long lunch in France. Can’t wait to be back for more!
