We waited in vain for about 15min to do the check in: The lady in the kitchen saw us obviously, but didn't come. Later on before supper, the landlord came to our table and told us in a very angry mood to move to the table beside or otherwise we wouldn't get anything to eat! We just hadn't figured out that our places had been set for this table precisely. It got worse: in the morning, we didn't get breakfast. The reason was, that we had not asked in the evening when we could have breakfast. There was no sign anywhere with an hour for breakfast or the demand to ask for this hour, and nobody from the staff asked us. Usely, they ask the guests at the check in to ask in the evening, but we simply had no regular check in, so we were not told about this special house rule! I had to beg and to discuss about 10 min. to get... one slice of bread for each of us!! And I begged again to get some jam and one ! knife. We were not allowed to eat in the dining room, we had to got to our chamber. The washroom was closed permanently, there was no information about that and we didn't dare to ask why the athmosphere was really bad and we had to stay until the next day...
We wanted to stay for the night but due to bad weather we went a day earlier and just wanted to have a lunch there. I honestly have to admit, that we didn’t fell welcome. It was pointed out to us, that we should leave, as a storm was coming up. That’s okay to say and we’re happy that they made us aware of it, but the way it was said just felt weird. We’re kind of disappointed because we were really looking out for staying the night once there but didn’t feel welcome. I hope this yields as a call for improvements!
45 minutes from Jungfraujoch over the Aletsch Glacier, then back in half the time.
What a great hike from Jungfra .... beware food runs out and closes mid afternoon.. so get your order in ASAP.
We took the train to the Jungfraujoch in the afternoon. Only partly full, due to the lack of Asian visitors. A 1-hour walk on a well-marked melted snow path lead us the Mönchsjoch hut, slow walk due the high altitude. We enjoyed a draft beer before dinner, a very tasty meal including salad and dessert. The hut was only half full due COVID-19 but sleep was difficult, as we are not used to the altitude. We got up on time for the sunrise, before a delicious bircher muesli. We can recommend the Mönchsjoch hut not only as a nice way to extend your high altitude experience but also for its reception and meal!
