Contribuiți la feedbackMy daughter and I came to Fernie for the weekend, and after hearing everyone rave about Le Grand Fromage I made sure to stop by.The shop itself is well presented, and there is a wide selection of tempting products; the cheese display looked quite nice as well and is organized by type and region of origin accompanied by names, origins, and descriptions. I stopped in the early afternoon before lunch and again afterwards (it was a hot day so I didn't want to keep lovely cheese in the car if I found a gem) but was quite surprised that on both visits the older women at the counter did not greet me or even acknowledge my presence. On the first visit there were no there customers and on the second visit a couple entered at the same time, whom she helped and offered samples to. I wandered around bit to give her time to help them but even when I returned to stand at the cheese counter she ignored me so although the cheeses did look lovely I chose to just leave without purchasing anything - why waste my money if it's pretty clear the shop doesn't want it.I'm not the sort of person to write this kind of review but I guess after all the hype it was quite disappointing. I rated them Average because the products looked nice and the store was clean but the customer service was very poor.
Incredible selection of wonderful cheese, from the sharpest to the creamiest, they can make suggestions on what to serve with it, and what not to serve with it. They have oils and crackers, dishware and just about everything you could possibly want someone who really really loves you, to go to Le Grand Fromage and buy you a very special birthday gift from. They are knowledgable and friendly. Its a real pleasure to go in there because when you come out, you will have sampled some delicious cheese, probably bought a little something to nibble on and will have learned something new about something totally random.
Le Grand Fromage has an outstanding collection of local (Rocky Mountain) and imported cheeses and the staff are super-willing to provide advice and let you taste-test to your hearts content. Also crackers, some charcuterie and service plates to round out your après-ski snacking.
We stopped in on a lark and were thrilled with the wide selection of excellent cheese. We couldn't resist the 10 year old cheddar. The Huntsman (Glouchester/Stilton combo) was our favorite.
If you are visiting Fernie and you like cheese, stop by here. The selection and variety of cheeses is excellent. My wife and I enjoy blue cheeses in particular and found some very good cheeses while shopping here. Stop by and enjoy.
