But on weekends, they would set up a cook to order takeout stall right outside the entrance. Here you can order freshly shucked BBQ oysters $3.00 a piece and BBQ Squid Skewers. These are much fresher and better than anything you can find inside the fish market. Grilling seafood do bring out the freshness and added smokiness which I really enjoyed! And I prefer my oysters freshly shucked! Great place to get some fresh seafood as a snack before fighting the hungry tourists inside the various Seafood joint inside the Market!
So this place was featured on a pretty popular Youtuber. So I figured I'd check it out. For those of you not familiar with Sydney Australia-it's already pretty costly. So naturally, a seafood spot would also be pricey. This visit cost me $35 AUD which about $27 USD. I got the barbecue seafood plate which was pedestrian and the coffee tasted instant. Not worth the money. The fish market itself was a pretty cool experience.
Arrived here from the Sydney International boat show on 31/9/2016 with a friend of mine. The place wasn't all crash hot or stylish as the tables and seating were average. Very noisy and was full of Asian tourists, mostly Chinese which was great. However the service by the Asians were great and very friendly I must say. My friend tried to hook me up with one of them as a joke which I though was rather funny. As for the mixed BBQ Seafood for $23.50, was worth it's value. I would like to try out Doyle's in Watson's Bay as I'm sure it would be much more classier.
This entire fish market is a little too overwhelming for me, but if you're used to terrible congestion in places, you'll feel right at home. I snagged a spot at Doyle's since it seemed to be the path of least resistance, seating-wise. If you show up at 12, expect for your blood pressure to go up. I went around 1:30, and it was packed but fading out. Got a grilled seafood plate which had a nice variety of tasty things and was plenty of food. I would get one of these to share with someone and then maybe split some dessert somewhere after. Staff was really sweet and helpful.
This place was the least crowded is nicest sit down spot at the market. The lobster was very alive and kickin from the tank. The very annoying thing here is that they dont tell you up front about all the extra add on costs. Lobster two ways, noodles, lobster prep as sashimi, ...etc. sooooo many extra add on costs that i didnt see until the bill was printed out. The cost is no problem at all but it would be nice to be told what would be extra costs. As for the food, the ginger shallot lobster over efu noodles was phenomenal. The lobster sashimi was very fresh but they dont have a special sashimi chef preparing the lobster sashimi. So it was cut all wrong which resulted in very unenjoyable texture and uneven bits of lobster. You never know how difficult and skillful its is to cut sashimi until you meet an unskilled chef. The oysters were mediocre and the freshness and quality greatly lacked the same type of oysters i had at catalina's. They do have awesome beers on tap.
