Contribuiți la feedbackMy maiden voyage to Chiki was a long time ago and when I walked in I felt a touch hesitant. It Is a little darker than atmospheric lighting and a bit dated but very authentic. The pork gyoza are delicious and I have eaten many a gyoza. I generally order the teriyaki salmon as it is delicious and I just can't go past it. My partner often orders the karage don or one of the other don dishes. We've had other dishes too and it's always spot on. My only criticism is that I have had the karage don myself before and found the chicken a bit gristly and fatty. Overall though Chiki is a gem for delicious Japanese. It's definitely nothing fancy but it is cheap and delicious and makes for an easy mid week meal.
Fantastic, authentic Japanese restaurant! Great food and really good prices. It is never as busy as it should be. They also serve what I think is the miso soup in Sydney!
The food here is underwhelming and takes a long time to arrive. We were the only people in the restaurant and it took about half an hour for the first of our many dishes to arrive. Each of our mains arrived about 5 minutes after the next, so none of us actually got to eat in sync. There are just about no vegetarian options on the menu, except for an overpriced avocado bousushi, which is essentially 8 pieces of rice with a slice of avocado on top for $16.50. The Yakitori mushrooms were very dry and flavourless. They got a few of our orders wrong, the lighting is also bright and the music is off.
Great little Japanese place run by the people of Jap's Table in Darlington. It's got a novel fitout, as there's seating on the left where you take off your shoes to make it seem more traditional, though you aren't squatting. They do a little bit of everything here, but they specialise in yakitori. The yakitori here is great...I recommend the wagyu beef, pork belly, and chicken skin. The service is warm and pleasant, the sushi is fresh, the donburi is good and they even serve ramen. The ramen is a lot lighter than tonkotsu as it's a chicken based broth, but they have a yuzu based one for something different. A pretty good option in Redfern for Japanese, especially if you're feeling yakitori.
