They were delicious too... and an interesting combo! The curry was like 'real ' curry, thanks to the passion of the young chefs with their new enterprise, and our Australian society with it 's inconclusiveness of different cultures, especially their cuisines! PLUS it was Kangaroo! How can it be more Australian? Roo is becoming more popular, not just because it tastes nice, but because it is a more sustainable source of red meat. With the numbers of Roos reaching near plague proportions in some parts of Australia, which can lead to environmental degradation and the need for culling, it 's an obvious and more affordable choice.
I am so very taken with Bush. It’s not often you come across a place that’s just so plain likeable, but the combination of the nostalgic menu, relaxed low-key environment, and the friendly and easy-going staff had completely won me over before the meal was even halfway done. The food may be simple to the point of almost feeling home-made, but this is the only place I’ve ever come across where it’s done with such quality and love. I’m not usually one to claim that a restaurant feels ‘just like eating at home’ – because usually it doesn’t – but Bush manages to pull off that illusion effortlessly. I liked it so much that I was this close to going back the very next night.
Finding a park can be a nightmare and you might mistake this place for an Aussie gift shop with all the Australian marsupial soft toys around souvenir lightbulb idea) but they sure know how to make a decent cheeseburger. When ChocolateSuze says it's one of the best burgers in Sydney this inspires me to get the Cheeseburger $12). Pillow soft bun by Breadtop, plenty of tasty sauce and a flavoursome pattie plus melty cheese for the win. Side of chips $5 on bill, $6 on menu) are always a winner when crinkle cut and well seasoned. Burger game is certainly strong here.
BUSH HAS OPENED IN REDFERN! You might’ve had their roo pies or cheeseburgers at popups around Sydney at The Meat Emporium or seen Grant Lawn around at Young Henry’s but he’s finally set up permanent digs in the ‘fern! They’re located on the quieter side of Redfern with a courtyard space, handmade communal tables and plush Aussie animals around the space. They’re also BYO (for now) and a short and sweet menu with plans for more items soon.
