Play poker, have a punt on the pokies, horses, sport or Keno and a friendly social atmosphere with a local pub feel. You should visit Club Redfern it's across the street from Redfern Station. My favorite in the restaurant is the Honey Chicken with special fried rice. Also another plus Club Redfern has a smoking pokies room also very large smoking area with large TV screens and music where you can sit, relax and enjoy your beer or drink having a cigarette. Than leaving your drinks unattended to stand outside half a block down the street to have one like most all bars clubs and venues today make you do. Also they have Wifi and Billy's Kitchen Restaurant in the Club dose takeaways too.
Club Redfern is the new Redfern RSL. It has relatively cheap drinks and ridiculously cheap meals. You can get a burger and chips for $5 and just about any classic Chinese dish you can think of think Chicken Chow Mein, Mongolian Lamb and Sweet and Sour Pork) for $9.90. That prices comes with your choice of boiled, fried or special fried rice too! There's a few 42-inch plasma screens around with FOX Sports playing and you'll find you can watch every NRL game if that's what your looking for. The club also puts on a few events such as a poker nights etc. There's a function room available and outdoor area for smoking. Being right across the road from the Redfern Station means it's an easy trip home.
Our table of 8 ordered Chicken Schnitzel $9.90), Sweet and Sour Chicken $9.90), T-Bone Steak $12.50), and Grilled Fish $11.50) at the counter. The dishes came in that order after 15-20 minutes or so, and were delivered to us directly by a waitstaff.
Good place for a cheap meal. Majority of mains are $9.90 with big portion sizes
The fish was not grilled; the thin slices of white fish was heavily covered in oil and definitely fried. Janet ordered the Honey Chicken. She asked the staff if there’s vegetables in the dish, and somehow due to miscommunication, the dish ended up being a Chicken Vegetables instead. Ali tried to get the Chicken Schnitzel, but they told him it wasn’t available and to stick to the Chinese menu. A couple of other guys ordered steak. It took a long while to get to the table, and apparently the steaks were overcooked and tasted like rubber. The serving size was good especially for the price averaging at $10 a dish, but overall, the lunch was really quite disappointing. I hope it’s only because they’re still setting up the new place; but if we ever return next time, I’ll really have to remember to get the Chinese dishes.
