Today's meal at The Sportsman in Elm was terrible. It was not worth the money at all. The food was not cooked as we had requested, although the staff were lovely. Unfortunately, the meal itself was a disappointment. I ended up taking the meat home for my dog, but even she turned her nose up at it. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
It was a long time ago that I left a positive review of this pub and we thought it was about time that they renovated. My family and I have tried to go once a month to this pub and I have to say that Keith and his team are always great hosts. We went on Saturday and left needing to be rolled out, the food was excellent and enough to feed an army! The only maybe negative would be the TV in the corner playing music a bit too loudly and that the interior needs a good coat of paint and renovation, but that being said the beer is good and the food is too so give it a try and support local businesses like we hope to do, all well done.
The owner of this pub is quite a character. His apparent gruffness is actually a mask for friendliness, but it can catch you off guard. I went with my family, who are locals, and know him well, so there was a bit of banter.
Have eaten here many times with a variety of different friends. Food always very good, sensibly priced, and with a good choice. Hope they still do a pensioner's menu on Monday-Thursday! Easy parking always helps, of course!
