Country Inn The Countryman - Exeter

I recently went to this restaurant for a family dinner, and I have to say it was the worst dining experience I have ever had. The starter consisted of cold, soggy potato peels that seemed to have been frozen. The main course was inedible. To make matters worse, another family was turned away due to the long wait and was given recommendations for other local dining options, including a service station. I couldn't help feeling envious that they had an alternative. The overpowering smell of disinfectant from the men's restroom hit me as soon as I walked in, and to add insult to injury, the other restroom was not clean.

I can honestly say that this restaurant ever offers one of the best carvery’s! by far one of the largest selection of meats (with extremely generous portions and vegetables etc. in the opposite at a really cheap price. great atmosphere and very friendly staff. since 18 months ago or so before this facility, we have made it a family tradition to visit each time when we go after devon to visit my parents. has a lot of space for large groups that are ideal for larger families looking for somewhere to have Sunday afternoon together (you might want to book though it can really be busy

After receiving a few recommendations, we decided to have lunch at this restaurant. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. We were the only customers, which may have been a factor. We ordered the large fish and chips, but the cod was small and the batter seemed strange, likely due to being kept under a hot lamp for too long. It seemed unlikely that the fish had come from anywhere near the ocean, perhaps a deep freeze instead. The chips were mediocre, likely frozen. The bread served was unpleasant and the butter had a strange taste. The only real ale available, Tribute, was decent. The restaurant was large but felt claustrophobic with too many tables crammed in. The taxidermy on the walls was off-putting. The prices were reasonable, but overall, the experience was not worth it. Despite the recommendations, we won't be returning.

This was a great experience. The portion sizes were generous, the prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was inviting, and the host was very friendly. The only downside was that the bar staff didn't know what bourbon was.
