Contribuiți la feedbackI doubt I'll try this place again I was on a business trip this weekend and we were told about this great restaurant. Well, I understand covid and all that but this was not a thing involved in this dinner. We were taken in within 15 minutes from our arrival and placed in a large area as we were 11 of us. The ambiance and decor looks good but we were struggling with flies in our table, we were given pita bread (soft and hard and a dressing of cinnamon butter that I believe it's better with cinnamon rolls not pita bread and especially not when you want to eat a savory main dish; I was waiting more of lebne or tzaziki dressing. Anyway, it took them about 2 hrs to give us our food. A friend and I ordered a Big Fat Greek Dinner which depending on the entrees is the amount you pay. I had dolmades (2 which I've never had with marinara on top, it also came with two individual salads, the entrees were lamb chops and pasta (not the big portion the waitress said it would be but tasty the seasoned rice was very bad it was like plastic rice with powder on top and the dessert was baklava (like 8 layers of filo dough with the nuts inside and CINNAMON!!! Not good and my friend had also zucchini which was average. For all this plus two beers the check was 50 dlls! I believe it's a lot especially for the portions and taste. It's surprising that this place was on the Evansville magazine but I guess there were good old days not now. Hope someone does something
The menu offered a selection of traditional Greek dishes as well as some American options. We opted for the lunch specials and ordered gyros, which were served with a salad and side for $7. The salads were generous portions of fresh cucumber, tomato, feta, onion, and Greek herbs - incredibly delicious and fresh. I also enjoyed a glass of house wine for $5.50, which turned out to be a lovely Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. Our entrees arrived promptly after we finished our salads, served hot on plates wrapped in red checkered paper. We selected tabouli salad, Greek fried potatoes, Greek string beans, and sautéed zucchini as our sides. Each side dish was fresh and flavorful, with the tabouli having a refreshing lemon taste and the potatoes being crispy. The Greek beans were slow-cooked with garlic and tomatoes, just like my grandmother used to make. We found the gyros to be slightly lacking in tzatziki sauce, so we requested extra which our server, Nick, promptly brought to us. Nick was attentive and friendly, keeping our water glasses filled and ensuring we had everything we needed. After our meal, we were able to enjoy the eclipse from their outdoor patio table, which also had wifi available. As someone with Greek heritage, I can confidently say that Acropolis serves the freshest and best Greek food in Indiana, all at a reasonable price.
Ok, we went to this place a few years back and they must have been having an off day because we were marginal about going back. But WOW I am so sad that we didn't go back sooner!!! We started with the Greek Sampler appetizer and everything was very good, especially the Greek meatballs. I ordered the tortellini with gyro meat and it was MIND BLOWINGLY delicious. I could drink the creamy garlic sauce, it was so tasty!!!!! My husband got the stuffed chicken breast and he loved it. Aside from the food, the atmosphere was very nostalgic for us. We went to Santorini for our honeymoon, and sitting in Acropolis was very reminiscent of the real thing!!! It's a big building, but the rooms are sectioned off, giving it a much more intimate feel. Overall, we loved it. You will not be disappointed
The service was good, we did not have to wait a long time to get our drinks and to order either. The food was served hot when they served it to us
I've been to Acropolis 5 or so times over the last 10 years and it was nice to go back now after having personally adopted a taste for a more international cuisine. Going here 5-10 years ago, I hadn't had much Mediterranean food broadly speaking so I didn't really have much to compare it to. The overall decor and ambience inside is intimate and detailed but some of the booth seats could use a resurfacing. The menu had a variety of options, but some seem to just be a bit more of an American or midwestern take on a Greek dish and less authentic. The portion sizes on the gyro platter and kota lemonati were very generous and both quite tasty. The tabouleh side dish didn't seem very fresh on this visit unfortunately. I think it's great that this family operated restaurant has added to the international cuisine options in Evansville, but depending on your exposure to Greek food overall, you may or may not be impressed with this place. I'm waffling between 3 and 4 stars. Would have probably gone with a 3.5.
