Take it from an Australian these are tasty pies! The classic Beef 'n Beer is exactly what a pie should be. The Braised Beef Rib is delicious, and reminds me of the home made pies available back home, with delicious gravy and big chunks of beef. Their dessert pies are also quite genius, with some classics (Banana Cream, Apple Crumble) as well as some inventive and interesting flavours such as the peanutbutter cup which is filled with tasty peanutbutter cream and topped with chocolate. The pastry is flaky and delicious, well cooked, and holds its form beautifully (though the little pie pans are a welcome addition for those not accustomed to eating them by hand).Eating in at the Dundas St W store is always a delight, and the take home frozen option is perfect for when you just want to sit at home and do some good old fashioned pie binge eating.
The pies at this restaurant may be small and a bit expensive, but they are absolutely delicious! I have never tried a pie from here that I did not like. This is definitely my top choice for meat pies in the city.
Why are there not more places like the Pie Commission around Toronto!!<br/ <br/ The Pie Commission is a small hole in the wall that is making flaky meat pies out the side door like it's illegal. The pies they are baking are individual sized pies that are the perfect lunch. If you don't know what it's like, imagine various flavors of chicken pot pie. Though the place is tiny inside, they have lounge chairs and picnic tables outside. Most of their pies are roughly around $7-8 and you can make it a meal by adding a side of slaw or fries for $9.98 total. <br/ <br/ They have several staple pies like Beef N Beer, Curry Chicken, and Braised Beef, but they also have specialty pies based on the season. I was actually hoping for shrimp and lobster pie, but they didn't have any, so I opted for another special, the Steak N Cheese. <br/ <br/ The Steak and Cheese pie wasn't steak, but was still good. It is actually beef brisket with mozzarella cheese, gravy, and onions. The brisket meat was tender and juicy, while cheese and onions help to complement the flavor. But honestly guys, the best part of the meal was surprisingly that flaky f in crust. That crust was so done so damn well with the flakiness and buttery flavor holding everything in. You could pretty much argue that the crust was better than the fillings. Hard to say that for most of these meals. <br/ <br/ The place is literally a hole in the wall. You'll find a door attached to the side wall of a salon by the Queensway. The service was real friendly and the people whip up their pies rather quickly and have them heated and ready for us folks. Definitely a must try for anyone who loves flaky savory goodness.
Probably the best steak cheese pie I've ever had. I ordered it as a combo and had the fries. Fries were fresh cut style and pretty good. I tried the coleslaw I wouldn't order that again. The pie I selected was from the seasonal menu. The establishment is a to go style restaurant with outdoor seating. Even though my pie had a small piece of tin foil on the inside, I will definitely be back.
