Tasting Menu: Michelin Star prices without the Michelin Star experience. Would have been acceptable at half the price (maybe). €383.00 for two: tasting menu, two glasses of wine each, two coffees, two.bottles of water and service charge included in bill. Very pleasant sommelier. Other service spotty at best.
Having recently visited Ashford Castle (long story!), I found the atmosphere at Dromoland to be more relaxed and informal. The service was just as good, if not better, as the staff were more themselves. We enjoyed breakfast at the Earl of Thomond twice and dinner once, and were pleased with all the meals and service. For dinner, we indulged in the full tasting menu – one vegetarian option at €95 and one regular option at €105. Our dinner seating was late, but our server remained cheerful throughout the service, even though we were there until almost 11 pm! We joked about the simplicity of ordering two tasting menus with nine courses. The omnivore enjoyed her food more, but I found my vegetarian options slightly underwhelming. Some dishes had weak points, such as the risotto being too al dente for my liking, but overall it was a satisfying nine-course meal. The Cashel Blue Cheese Panna Cotta with walnut and pickled blackberries was a standout, and the Cratloe Hills Sheep’s Cheese Ravioli in rooster potato broth was delightful. The Blood Orange Green Peppercorn Sorbet in Campari jus was a refreshing and tasty dessert. Breakfast highlights included the scones and pain aux raisins, especially when paired with clotted cream. Kudos to the staff at Dromoland for their vegetarian and vegan options! The Earl of Thomond receives 3.5 out of 5 Green Stars for their commitment to social and environmental impact. They offer a full vegetarian tasting menu, a vegetarian à la carte menu with vegan options, and a vegetarian breakfast menu. Though the main menu is mostly meat- or fish-based, featuring a goat cheese starter, it would be beneficial to duplicate some vegetarian menu items to encourage a more plant-based diet. They disclose the sources of their meat, fish, and cheeses, with some being wild-caught. While they offer foie gras on the menu, it's not considered ethically ideal. The majority of their ingredients are locally sourced in Ireland and are made in-house.
From the moment I walked in to the restaurant I knew it was something special. It felt classy without being stuffy. The soothing harp music added to the ambience. I ordered a steak it was a tad tough but flavor was good. I also ordered the fois gras which was delicious. By the time dessert came around we were too full to order but a nice plate of sweets was brought to us. This is a special place and with the gorgeous view of the outside it felt magical.
Amazing service, best food and wine I’ve had (ordered off ala carte Menu) and top it off with beautiful harp being played. OverLl experience was excellent!
