Ren Dao - Elsternwick

Friendly owner and staff. No meat [ many items with "fake titles" eg roast duck [which is textured vegetable protein], fake prawns, fake chicken - they don't look or taste like their real brothers]. But they taste OK. Plenty of vegetables. Nice hearty generous soups such as sweetcorn, Laksa [not too hot]. Servings quite large. I recommend you share the plates.Nice cold mint tea. Colourful dessert - rainbow pudding.

Ren Dao's popularity has grown in recent years and I would recommend making a booking 1-2 days in advance. The prices can be a bit steep if you're not sharing with others, but you can always get the $16 set menu special which includes a bit of everything and is always a delicious option. The vegan butter chicken is amazing, as well as the Assam fish. We never pass up on the pan-fried dumplings either. The staff are always super friendly and helpful as well. Vegetarians travelling to Melbourne should definitely visit!

I always love the food at Ren Dao and the staff are so friendly! The meal sizes are good sized and the prices are fair.

Second time here. It is our anniversary and we get a wonderful welcome. My dish the Roasted Duck(vegetarian of course) was Delicious! However, my mate was not so luck. He was recommended by the waitress that the Chicken Parma was a top dish and worth a try. Very unfortunate it wasn't as a few of us tried it and it didn't work. Seemed stringy and lacked any flavour. We did let the owner know but no real acknowledgement. For the others it seemed hit and miss tonight.

Very interesting menu with good varieties. We ordered Peking Duck. The pancakes were light and soft. The roast duck was very interesting. Wroth a try. The curry Laksa was well presented and full of flavour. The Thai Fried Rice was quite different and nice. There were also meat ball spaghetti, dumplings and seafood, just to name a few. The food was generously served and the staff was kind and thoughtful. No garlic nor onions were used in the cooking.
