After reading many good reviews, I had high hopes for Veritas, which proclaims Fine Dining on its website. But, after dining there, I can only assume those reviews were written in vino veritas , Latin for telling the truth while inebriated. Small Plate #1: Arancini with BBQ Pork, Mushrooms, Cotija, Green Chili Sauce, and Farm Fresh Egg. While visually appealing, the dish was underseasoned and severely lacking flavor. I would 've been happy to season it myself had there been salt pepper on the table. Small Plate #2: Crispy Cornbread with bacon jam, chives and honey thyme butter. The bacon jam was more bacon crumbles than jam and only 3 of 6 pieces had a small dollop of honey thyme butter. Meh. Small Plate #3: Devils on Horseback bacon wrapped, cheese stuffed, deep fried skewered prunes with peanuts and balsamic drizzle. This was by far the best of three small plates. But then again, you could bacon wrap a cricket, deep fry it and drizzle a good balsamic on it and it would probably taste good. Main Course #1: Strip Steak with Cracked Purple Potatoes, Carrots, Butternut Squash, Turnips, Oregano and Pecans. Holy cow, the plate was covered in undercooked, underseasoned root veggies. Sadly, the steak, while cooked correctly, was 40% fat and gristle. Not worth the price. Main Course #2: Mahi Mahi, Nut Crusted with Sweet Potato Bisque, Green Beans, Parsnips, Hen of the Woods Mushrooms, Basil, Tarragon and Almonds...at least that 's what the menu said. As a wild mushroom forager, I assure you there wasn 't any hen of the woods in the dish. The Mahi Mahi was good but again, underseasoned. When asked if I wanted dessert, I declined, not willing to take another chance just to be disappointed again. PS... The vibe at Veritas stops abruptly once you walk past the warm front patio lights. Perhaps, upon drinking several glasses of wine, the vibe returns. BOTTOM LINE: Veritas might be enjoyable to gather with friends over a few glasses of wine and deep friend prunes. Beyond that...head east on Clayton Rd for actual fine dining.

Instantly we were genuinely greeted and immediately sat. Service was prompt and gave great recommendations based on a few choices and questions we had. Inside the restaurant was a warm with a relaxing atmosphere. The quality of the food was top notch. I had the chicken and waffles while my husband had the shrimp and grits. We are very excited to try their happy hour and their superb cocktails from their newest bartender. It 's tucked away but very much worth stopping in for a meal. You will see us again!
The food is amazing by chef Mathis! The flavors with each entree always intrigue us! Ownership really knows their wines and always available to talk with ! The staff is great and the newer outside area is lovely when appropriate.
