Recess Brewing - Edwardsville

I discovered this hidden gem on my way to St. Louis and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the atmosphere, decor, and the quality of the beer. It is definitely a place worth stopping at during a road trip. If I lived nearby, Recess would be a regular hangout spot for me. It would be my go-to place for a little break from time to time.

I have been wanting to visit this brewery for years and I am so glad that I finally had the chance to stop by tonight! Patrick, the bartender, is excellent and I absolutely adored the beers they had on tap. The combination of the brews and his old fashioned cocktail had me feeling inspired at the bar, and the trivia night was so much fun! I am already looking forward to my next visit and would highly recommend Recess Brewing to anyone who enjoys a peaceful atmosphere.

Couldn’t stay. Sat at the bar for 5-10 minutes. Wasn’t acknowledged by the sole bartender who was scream-singing along with the ridiculously loud country music to the seeming amusement of the two three people he was focused on at the bar. Been here a ton, usually enjoy the bar and the beers, but: a) you need to at least acknowledge the existence of the people sitting at your bar within a couple minutes, even if you’re busy (there were ten total people in the place, so I wouldn’t call it busy). A hello, glad to see ya, I’ll be with you asap, is plenty; b) turn the music down a hair, particularly if you’re going to be playing the most over the top country music imaginable that isn’t going to appeal to everyone; and c) don’t yell/sing along with the entire song while you’re pouring everyone’s drinks. This isn’t a karaoke bar. I don’t care that you know the words to this terrible song. And maybe if you spend a little less time leaning into your nightclub act, you could fill a few more glasses a bit faster and I wouldn’t be down the street giving someone else my money….

Absolutely top shelf!!!! Blazing wood burning fireplace. I wanted to stay longer.I’ll definitely go back!!
