A staple of the Edinburgh pub scene, The Phoenix successfully blends the enjoyment of traditional beer drinking with the thrill of watching sports.
This is a place you'll find yourself visiting after a long night of drinking, drawn in by its bright lemon-yellow exterior, even if you're not quite sure why. The atmosphere is rather dim...
I can’t fault the food—it was delicious! We started with appetizers of tomato salad and salmon, followed by a dish with chopped egg. For dessert, we enjoyed a selection of ice creams and a cheese plate. A friend had made a reservation for the set menu, but by 7 PM, some items were already unavailable. There weren’t many alternatives from the larger menu, but when we asked, they were willing to provide different options, although additional charges applied for the more expensive dishes. The service was a bit slow and frustrating, but given that many restaurants are short-staffed at the moment, I can understand. While I wouldn’t return immediately, I plan to try the full menu next time to sample more of the available choices.
The service was excellent with friendly staff and an nice spacious environment to be in. They accommodated our celiac friend very well. The starters were very nice. Sadly they had sold out of the Beef roast at 4pm on Sunday despite serving till 6pm. Sunday Roast was the main reason for going so it was a little disappointing. The Pork was not as good as I would have hoped.
