John Lewis Edinburgh, We had the unfortunate experience of choosing to have a short break in john Lewis café upstairs for coffee and cake ,the tables had never been cleared dishes piled up on tables and chairs , no staff trying to clear up at all what has happened to standards, i will not be hurrying back, Shocking

One star for friendly staff and view but the food and coffee were abysmal. Luke warm coffees despite requesting extra hot and dried out egg mayo roll (which they exchanged) then dried out scone and lemon cake. We couldn't eat them..the cakes are cut and sat out under lifts so even if freshly baked that day will dry out very quickly..its not cheap either. Very poor standard from John Lewis. Won't be back.

We decided to give this restaurant a visit now just wish we had went else elsewhere. 2 pie chips 2 tea's 26.90 total rip off pie was just luke warm had 8 warm dried out chips put on the plate but got 4 more added because i didn't want red cabbage oh and a splash of gravy added. what a shame JL you could have made a killing when Jenners closed down if only you had upped your game

10am on weekday morning and place was very busy. Confusing multiple queues. No sausages for some reason at hot food/breakfast counter, fatty bacon and those too trendy (in a bad way) brioche buns that never go with savoury food. They were dry and hard but had they been heated, they would have shattered. Scones used to be decent but now very poor dry, hard, tasteless. Staff doing their best in the confusion they have to somehow cope with. Coffee, tea is good as long as not from the machines that can be used. Could be way better than it is and as it used to be. I suspect they sell better quality food in the actual shop as gifts. If you're happy with a view and less bothered about food quality then, fine, this is place to eat.

Thought I would try out the new restaurant but was rather disappointed. The bacon roll was stone cold ! Not what i was expecting from John Lewis, (maybe Greggs)
