The rain drove us there a little earlier than planned but a warm welcome and a comfortable chair went a long way.Great staff and a super selection of food, we went for the sharing platter which was delicious and just enough for two we will definitely recommend and be back.
We expected a Scottish Evening here but found it dull with dull food and extraordinarily slow service. We left just before the music was to start as there were less than a dozen people in attendance with classic rock and roll blasting from the speaker above our table. It looks inviting from the outside and in the brochures but we were disappointed.
Exceptionally pleasant atmosphere with live music, followed by an entertaining rugby match on TV. Also exceptionally honest staff as a wallet left on the bar was returned by the owner the following day. He refused a tip but he may be pleased to know that this was donated to the Eric Liddell Centre in Edinburgh, which is named in honour of an ex-Scottish Rugby internationalist and an Olympic 400m Gold medalist.
We had dinner here with our tour group. We ate in one of the banquet rooms, which was beautiful and large, with another tour group. Our entertainment started with a comic discussion/presentation of haggis, which was disgusting. Everyone was given some to taste as well mixed reactions from the people at our table. The dinner was very good along with the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The entertainer that presented the haggis also played the bag pipes with two dancers. Later in the evening a couple entertained us and they played the guitar and bagpipe. It was a very good dinner and nice performances by all the entertainers. We had to go into the bar on the lower level to use the facilities and it was very lively down there with several locals having dinner and drinks.
We attended a group function on the top floor. The bagpiper and the dancers were excellent. The other entertainers were left wanting. The main guy started by saying he had driven 11 hours that day from another gig at the top of Scotland and that is why he was drinking coffee on stage, he advised up he had to entertain us till 9.30 with a lady singer. What was very unprofessional was the 2 of them tuning their instruments in front of the crowd, unprofessional and unprepared. The acoustics did not hit the mark all evening. I am sure the lady singer was not heard in the best light. The group dancing they organised was excellent. Food, drink, venue and service excellent. Overall I wound still recommend the evening and hope the venue takes on board these comments and improves place to 5+
