Contribuiți la feedbackAs we stayed at this hotel before we knew about the great views that their restaurant has to offer and so we booked a window table for a special dinner far in advance. But when we showed up, the staff was very surprised about us coming and didn't know about our reservation. As we were the only normal guests at that point we got a window table in the Edinburgh room due to a reception in the usual restaurant room. The menu was small but 16 GBP for 3 courses is a good price for this area. We both ordered salmon (which wasn't a highlight, but ok) and then a steak medium rare. Well, one of the steaks was served medium and the other one was totally well done. Unfortunately no member of the staff was there, so we couldn't return at least one of the steaks and we decided to eat them anyway. As the waiter came to ask for the desserts we mentioned the problem and later we found out that they seemed to have technical problems with the oven... The desserts were ok, but again, no highlight. The staff was friendly but kind of lost. Our highlight was the view on the firework display over the castle and the private atmosphere. The food quality may vary, so it's still worth a try, as the place is still hidden from the tourist masses.
I visited this restaurant in early July and enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea. I have dined here for lunch and dinner before, and it has consistently been excellent. It's a shame that more people aren't aware of this hidden gem, as it's definitely worth a visit.
This is the restaurant of the Royal Overseas League, which is a members club founded over a hundred years ago and that history is reflected in its premises, which you'll either love as a genteel haven from the rush and bustle of city life, or you'll want to remodel the place because you think it's too battered and generally well lived in. Either way, you'll not find fault with the location there are splendid views directly across to Edinburgh castle and the Mound. Nor will you doubt the standard of food and service. The menu isn't extensive, but certainly has something for all tastes, and is really well presented quality food while the service is understated in the sort of old fashioned way that you might think had disappeared forever, but which is attentive and efficient to your every need. Prices are good even better if you're a club member. And if you're having your own special event, there is no shortage of private dining rooms available for you. I'll be back.
Words fail me in how fantastic this restaurant is. Came here for afternoon tea on a wet day but it was sunshine inside. Will be back and everyone should try this ray of sunshine in Edinburgh no matter what the weather.
As you will see from my others reviews I booked with confidence knowing we would have a nice evening out. We enjoyed the new menu and the big welcome from our host who yet again made us feel very welcome. We were introduced to a new member of staff Roman who was very knowlagible and friendly (Mr Campbell must have an eye for talent) You can feel the positive vibe as soon as you enter and with the summer weather starting the spectacular view from the window seat really cant be beaten. We did not plan anything after dinning this time as we were looking forward to spending the remainder of the evening in the bar, where we enjoyed the atmosphere and as in our previous visits we were pleasantly surprised how the little the wallet was damaged. Thank you for the genuinely friendly highland hospitality Daniel (Mr Campbell) We are both really look forward to our next visit!!
