The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere with only a few other tables. The menu was on the table, with a separate wine menu and non-alcoholic drinks available via QR code. We enjoyed a Kir Royale and passion fruit lemonade to start, along with delicious small touches before our meal. We opted for the 3-course menu, but there is also a 7-course tasting menu available. The homemade bread and butter were tasty, and the Venison Tartare and Chicken broth starters were exceptional. The main course of wild Brill and Venison loin were cooked perfectly, and we paired it with a bottle of Rioja. The desserts were also fantastic. Despite some complaints about portion sizes, we found the Michelin-standard servings to be just right. We will definitely return to this fine dining restaurant. (It's worth noting that a very drunk and rude couple's complaints were not reflective of our own experience.)
We had another fantastic meal at 1863. Our planned visit to Edinburgh was cancelled because of the weather, but 1863 exceeded our expectations. The food was inventive and gorgeously presented. The staff, particularly Laura, were friendly and top-notch, just as they were when we visited Morrells in the past. We highly recommend 1863 - it's definitely worth every penny.
I had my first visit to this restaurant and it was fantastic. The atmosphere was beautiful, the food was delicious from beginning to end, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant and I'm looking forward to returning soon.
We had the three course lunch and it was superb from start to finish. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. All the food was explained and the passion of the staff shone through. The quality, taste and choice was perfect. I enjoyed every dish and it's hard to choose a favourite. The joy of the chicken broth will stay with me. Thank you to all the staff for a terrific experience.
We've visited 1863 on several occasions and it continues to be absolutely wonderful, small and perfectly formed. It's great to see the same knowledgeable cheery staff each time we visit, the service is spot on. They have an excellent non-alcoholic drink menu which is surprisingly rare, as the regular designated driver I appreciate this enormously. Food is top notch, tasty and beautifully presented, I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
