Contribuiți la feedbackI have been trying cakes at various places, but my favorite food from Australia. J Jaks has the best pastries I have ever tasted. Unlike other cakes where I couldn't even finish or had to throw away parts of the shell to get to the good stuff, at J Jaks the pastry itself is the star. It is soft, flaky, and absolutely delicious. It's almost like a puff pastry, but made in-house which is probably why I haven't found anything like it elsewhere. The fillings in the cakes are simple - mint, chunks, pepper, mushroom, potato, etc. Other places may have more unique flavors and fillings, but at J Jaks, the simplicity is done right and the overall package is much better. I could easily eat these cakes every day. From what I know, it's a small family business run by just two people, which is nothing extraordinary. But considering the quality, I would give it a 10/10.
The pastries at this restaurant are light and fluffy, allowing the tasty meat filling to shine through. The hot apple cake is to die for, with a delicious and not too thick pastry crust filled with sweet and tangy apple goodness. The location near Picnic Point provides the perfect spot to enjoy your treats with a beautiful view. I can't wait to try their apple turnovers next time!
I came to this restaurant for lunch based on recommendations from locals. I ordered 2 meat pies and 2 apple pies. The meat pies were filled with a potato mixture, which was not what I was expecting and they did not meet my expectations. The apple pies, however, were quite good with a fluffy pastry on top. I informed the server about my dissatisfaction with the meat pies, but unfortunately did not receive any compensation or apology for the error. I will likely try a different restaurant in Toowoomba next time. - Kjay72
I fell in at noon and picked up cakes and peas. Absolutely great. This was, without qualification, the most tasty cake I ate. Very substantial and reasonably priced.
There is no off-street parking here, and you can't park on the corner right in front of the store. We parked on busy Hume Street rather than circling around. The pies were good and the apple turnover was fantastic. They had a good drink selection...too. Nevertheless, I will probably go back to Big Dad's the next time I need a pie.
