Stanley - East Riding of Yorkshire

I have ordered takeout from this restaurant many times and always enjoyed it. However, my first dine-in experience during the Christmas period with my family was disappointing and will be our last. The food was good, but that was the only positive aspect of our visit. The service was slow due to a lack of staff, although the few that were working, particularly the two women serving, were pleasant. The man, possibly the owner, was rude and did not acknowledge us when we arrived or when we left. When we asked for milk for our baby during the meal, we were simply told they did not have any, which seemed unusual for a restaurant. We also inquired about fortune cookies and prawn crackers, receiving the same blunt "no" response. Upon leaving, I noticed the dirty fish tank, giving me a sense of pity for the neglected fish. In conclusion, while the food is decent, if you are seeking a welcoming and customer-oriented dining experience, I would suggest avoiding this restaurant. We will not be returning.

Please disregard the most recent reviews! My family lives in Hessle and we have been to Stanley's a few times now. Each time, the food has been exceptional, with generous portions and delicious flavors at a great price. The owner is friendly, as long as you are friendly in return, which is not difficult to do. It appears that some reviewers may have taken things too personally, as anyone familiar with Chinese cuisine will recognize that this restaurant is authentic. We are excited to visit again and commend them on their fantastic work!

While the food was great, the gentleman who greeted us was offhand from the moment we arrived until we left. There only was us and another table dining the whole time we were there. Will not be back. Never asked us if we enjoyed the meal, or thanked us. Very rude man.....the girl serving was lovely....shame

Service good, but food average. Not much more to say about the restaurant. I am not saying it will stop us going back again, but not somewhere we would go for a special occasion.

We last came here in February of 2022. A spur of the moment choice which we were very thankful for. We came this time, on a Sunday evening for a friend's birthday. I'd booked a table weeks ago, but, thankfully, the restaurant was very quiet. It had been a very warm summers day and we were all very grateful for the air con! We'd already decided to have the mixed platter of starters, so we all had just one item of each. This was priced at £8.50 per head. In hindsight, we'd order differently next time. We all agreed that the star of the platter was the prawn toast. Thick bread topped with very meaty prawns, and very thickly covered unlike a lot of places. We all agreed that was the best starter. We all ordered different mains, I had the sweet and sour king prawns, others had shredded beef, honey and garlic chicken, sweet and sour chicken and char sui pork (I think). We also ordered sides of plain noodles (with onion and bean sprouts) and egg fried rice. The portions were very fresh, plentiful, and arrived quickly. There were left overs (non of us like food waste), so these were boxed up for us to take home. The service, well, what a character Stanley is! Lovely chap, affable and charming. We were served by his daughter too. Very polite and charming, not invasive, just right. It was a perfect evening at Stanley's. The only off putting thing is the buckets of cigarette ends at the door from the car park. That area just needs a bit of a tidy up. The interior of the restaurant is lovely but that's the only thing that lets this fantastic Chinese down.
