China Red At The Coach And Horses

Chinese food in and around Hull is never great. The staff are good in here and service very fast. The food though just isn’t great. The meat quality is poor and sauces taste fake. Rice and chips ok. Singapore fried rice was very oily. Singapore chow mein was thrown together. Big portions but quality not as good as it used to be when the old man was in.

We visit here regularly, we try to go once a month or so. Food is lovely, it is always hot and tasty, good choice on the menu too and they will adapt things to suit tastes. Service is always good and quick, staff are very friendly. Only negative I always find it very cold in here, the restaurant never seems to be warm.

Had a meal here for our anniversary, we had the hot mixed starters, delicious, then we shared chicken in green pepper and black bean sauce, egg fried rice and salt and pepper chips, the whole meal was very tasty, it wasn't too busy so the service was quick, the meal with 3 drinks, £40 quid, well happy.

We have been ordering takeout from this restaurant for over 10 years, and it has always been fantastic. I have always recommended it to friends and family. However, tonight we ordered our usual dishes and noticed that the portions were much smaller than usual. Even the kids were still hungry afterwards. I compared the containers from our last order and found that they had shrunk by half. I understand that food prices have gone up, but why has the price at China Red increased while the portions have decreased? If they are giving us less food, shouldn't the prices stay the same? We paid more money, so I expected to receive the same portion sizes as before. I am disappointed and won't be returning as we were regular customers.

Excellent food and service. Best service I had had at a restaurant in years well done. Looking forward to going again soon!
