The staff is friendly and accommodating, but the rooms are closed off, musty, and in poor condition. Basic amenities like a refrigerator, kettle, and tea and coffee making facilities are available, though. Unfortunately, the River Cafe is currently closed.
I am sure this was a beautiful place in the past, but unfortunately it is no longer. The supervisor Lady Anne was beautiful, but the task was unfortunately somewhat beyond her resources and experiences. Mobile phone not available for most of the day to receive calls, completely incapable of getting a text message. We knew we were coming after 7:00 and during the day tried to get in touch. The owner took care of a family member. The living cat liked the bed and bite us both at different times when we beat that it was for us! Icing on the cake was the squirting cat Faeces on the bathroom floor.
Visits Saturday. Website stated it was open. Small signing. Found entrance from a muddy parking lot with a burnt car in the middle stage. No signs of activity. When a man was leaning out the window of the neighboring house and told us it was closed. So we didn't actually try the cafe, but it went down so I didn't vent back.
Beautiful café on the banks of the Macleay River in the heart of Kempsey. An excellent breakfast with large coffee and very cheap. Definitely worth a deviation from M1 for a meal!
Visited for lunch. Outstanding views over the river, lovely garden setting. Friendly service. I had the veggie stack with salad and chips. Others had soup. Delicious food and reasonable prices. Good coffee. Worth visiting.
