The Barley Mow - East Dorset

Absolutely terrible! My family and I went out for dinner at a country pub called The Barley Mow. We were disappointed to find that the pub offered Chinese dishes in addition to traditional pub food. The atmosphere was so cold that I never even took my coat off. The Chinese mix platter starter was unimpressive and overpriced. The three Chinese main meals we ordered were flavorless and inedible. The waitress, who shouted from the bar to check if everything was okay, clearly did not provide good customer service. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, we received no apology or attempt to rectify the situation. We were told that the restaurant does not receive complaints. We regretted our decision to dine at this pub and it ended up being a costly mistake.

I stopped by for a meal around 5pm and found the woman behind the bar to be very loud. She seated us in the restaurant, which was very cold even after she tried to warm it up with a fire. She asked us to wait 5 minutes to order, but after 15 minutes of waiting, she told us to wait again even though the place was empty. The smell of the food wasn't very appealing, so we decided to leave. I would not recommend this pub.

Been in the summer and recently twice in two weeks. Sat inside in the evening. If you like your pubs to be dark, dingy and cold with zero atmosphere and no outside lighting so you cant see your way back to the car then you’ll like this place. If you like your burgers cooked in the oven(!!! and the chips over cooked then you’ll like this place. If you like to eat just about ok food then pay good money for it then you’ll like this place. I don’t go out to eat very often but when i do i expect decent food. On the plus side, the staff seem friendly and it is nice outside in the summer although the garden could do with some TLC. Drink selection is fine.

Amazing social, local pub with incredible food. This pub is one of those local, market town county pub gems… Fab local pub feel with great staff and friendly atmosphere, great food and lovely atmosphere… winter is lovely sitting round the fire and summer brings a beautiful garden… (I am a new local to the area… moved from Poole 6 months ago .. so maybe a bit biased… but willing to share the secret of the Barley Mow!;

The restaurant has delicious food served in a lovely ambiance. The menu offers a combination of traditional pub fare and Asian dishes. Despite it appearing that only one person was managing the bar and serving guests, she did an excellent job keeping up with everything. Although we chose to sit indoors, the outdoor garden area looked very inviting.
