The food was served quickly, hot, and delicious. Highly recommend and we will definitely be returning soon!
During a 4-day period when we had a friend visiting for a holiday, we attempted to book a ferry from Topsham. Despite multiple phone calls and filling out their online form, we never received a callback or any acknowledgment from the ferry company. Unfortunately, the Turf missed out on our business once again. This is not the first time we have experienced this issue.
The service has been terrible since the new owners took over. We had to wait a long time to order drinks and food, and had to switch out the barrel while they were pouring our drink. They also forgot to bring us the food we ordered. On top of that, they gave us our change in a mix of 20p and 5p coins, as if they had just emptied a slot machine. The staff appears untrained and lacking in customer service skills. This feels like a total rip off.
I love this pub! However since the new owners took over they have made some frankly cynical money grubbing changes to the menu and they must be the only pub in the country that charges for dog treats! Yes you read that right Every other pub I 've ever been in that 's dog friendly gives away free dog treats Not here 50p for a bonio what the actual Also me andy mate go here regularly for a beer or two or lunch , we have previously enjoyed a great crab sandwich but I was unpleasantly surprised to see it on the menu as a Devon crab and prawn sandwich That is not a thing! they have cynically cut the expensive crab with cheap imported prawns to cut costs , about 40% crab 60% prawn we estimate, this is disingenuous and downright dishonest , it implies the prawns are from Devon but I doubt that strongly I suspect they are imported from the far east where they are often produced in terrible conditions by indentured workers that amounts to modern slavery , it 's a crying shame as the old owners where decent folk , the new guy is apparently a multi millionaire , I guess you don 't get stinking rich by being kind , decent or honest , the pub will do brisk trade because of it 's magical location and I 'll still go there for a drink but I 'd rather eat my own feet than eat there again :
What a find! Having to walk is an extra charm too, such a beautiful stroll along the canal path. We had mussels and ploughman's lunch, both lovely. Tiramisu and lemon posset for dessert. Good drinks, nice coffee too and the views are spectacular. We managed to nab a couple of illusive deck chairs and ended up here for hours. Will 100% be back and make a day of it, maybe jump the ferry to Topsham for a hour! Positives: Charming, picturesque, well kept, good services, nice interior, excellent food, lots of exterior tables, great atmosphere, optional BBQ with vegan options. Seeing others food come out the burgers and chips looked divine. Negatives: It's pricey, but you kinda expect it. But I guess it's kinda average prices now for pubs and you've got the location. Was a bit disappointed I had quite a few dead mussels in my portion so someone in the kitchen isn't checking them properly but I was full on what I'd had so couldn't grumble too much. Honestly had the perfect end to my week off. I think this has to be one of the best places locally.
