We had to wait over an hour to receive menus. While the food was tasty, the limited selection of just 4 main courses was disappointing. Overall, the food was good but we have no plans to return.
My dining companion and I both opted for the 5 course dinner, which we found to be excellent. We also decided to get the wine pairing to complement our meal. Unfortunately, the pour I received with my main course was from the bottom of the bottle and contained a lot of sediment, making it undrinkable. When I brought this to their attention, I was told that this was normal. While this may be acceptable if I had purchased the bottle myself, I had only ordered a single glass of wine, which I never received. With a bill totaling over 800 dollars, this was not acceptable. I was disappointed to find that I was not compensated in any way for this oversight.
Exceptional 5 star service. Cocktails were original and tasty, which more than complimented tasty treats before the appetizers were served. The salmon tartare was the best I’ve ever had! My wife and I both had the steak with was cooked exactly to order and paired with an exquisite wine recommended by the steward. This restaurant is a must if you travel to Montreal.
We really enjoyed Chez Sophie. We called because the weather threatened to rain and they happily moved us inside. We ordered a la carte. First we had their version of a Japanese gin and tonic delicious and light. Then they had a little fish sample and an amuse bouche. These were nice, though not so special. But the bread and flavored butter which they bring continually is excellent. I had the bone marrow as an appetizer and yes, it was oily but tasted marvelous and had a little baby lettuce with vinaigrette. My friend had the wrapped shrimp. For the main courses we had the scallops which he thought were very special and I chose the veal sweetbreads which were fabulous with two kinds of asparagus, miniature mushrooms and foie gras cream. It was superb. The sommelier was surprised we were only drinking one glass of wine each but ordered us a delicious white. We did not have dessert or very much wine so our meal was not wildly expensive. The service was charming all around. We were coddled and treated as if they were delighted to have us there. The shape of the restaurant is long and narrow so it has been designed in a streamlined manner. I thought it was handsomely done.
This place is a hidden gem! The food was delicious and the service is top notch. Frederick our server was delightful. We highly recommend this place and we will definitely be coming back our next trip to Montreal!
