Mei Wei - Durham

I have been a fan of Chinese food for as long as I can remember. During a recent trip to New England, I had the chance to dine at one of the top spots in the area. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem. Located in Mill Rd. Plaza in Durham, I visited for the first time while working as a refrigeration technician. I was immediately impressed by how clean the kitchen was compared to other Chinese restaurants I had been to. The food was incredibly fresh and the flavors were amazing. The sushi was exceptional, as well as every other dish I tried. The service was outstanding and I found myself reluctant to dine anywhere else after experiencing this place. I couldn't help but wonder if this was the best Chinese food in the state, or even all of New England.

I had never ordered from this restaurant before and I was very disappointed with my experience. The beef teriyaki did not have any teriyaki flavor, and the baked rice was overcooked and extremely dry. The General Tso chicken, a favorite of mine, was the worst tasting dish - it tasted old, like it had been sitting for a few days. I also missed an order of crab rangoons that I had requested. The pork in the pork lo mein seemed questionable - it did not taste like pork at all, possibly artificial or tofu. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again. Thankfully, they reimbursed me for the meal, but I could not eat more than a bite of any dish. The food was terrible and they should improve the quality of their ingredients.

The American-Chinese cuisine at this restaurant is fantastic, the bar drinks are delicious, and the service is top-notch. I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.

I love love loved mei wei but i got food poisoning from chicken fried rice and im still recovering. don’t know if i will be able to eat here again unfortunately.

Have been ordering from here on doordash for quite awhile. But I made a big order three days ago. Just now getting to my low mein. And there was a nice piece of metal in it. I have no idea how much I could have possibly eaten. Will never order from here again. That's unacceptable. I can never feel comfortable with food from here ever again. Also! It's not foil. It's thick metal. I used no foil to cover or store. Right from the to go container to a bowl with a paper towel then into the microwave, surprised it didn't mess up my microwave. If I have health issues from this it will become a major issue.Update:The response from the owners was great. I understand how this could have happened. Stuff happens, people have bad days, and serious issues can occur. I'm not upset about this, and I have no intentions of pushing this point if no complications occur. I feel as though they are responding to this properly and taking the necessary precautions to make sure this never happens again. Will more then likely visit to verify. But I have faith this is not a poorly managed establishment and all steps will be properly taken.
