My wife and I visit Mahogany Grill a few times a year, and it’s always been a great dining experience. This time, after the pandemic, the service and atmosphere are still great, but the food was not up to previous standards. Today, my wife wanted soup and salad – but today’s ONLY soup was Watermelon Gazpacho Soup; What is that? No thanks! So she ordered the Gorgonzola Salad and a side of “Loaded” Herbed Mashed Potatoes. I ordered the Calamari Appetizer and the Cioppino entree, both of which I’ve enjoyed before. Well, the “loaded” potatoes were mashed potatoes with scallions and herbs, and the “loaded” $2 extra was diced tomato, sprinkles of shredded cheese, and scallions – but my wife expected cheese, bacon and sour cream (our usual expectation of “loaded” potatoes). My calamari pieces were very rubbery – obviously grossly overcooked – the waitress didn’t charge me for them, with an apology that some of the cooking staff were new. My Cioppino was very tasty, but 2 clam and mussel shells had not opened – not something to be served at an upscale restaurant. Again, the waitress apologized. The wine list was very good, as usual. We shared a chocolate tart dessert, and we agreed that the chocolate filling was very good, but the tart shell tasted like a pre-frozen supermarket pastry shell. We are sorry the Mahogany Grill has suffered from the pandemic, but we encourage them to find more qualified chefs.
We had dinner here only because it was attached to the hotel. It started out promising with a nice atmosphere then after a long wait and poor service the drinks and food came out. Not worth the price. Salty salty tiny duck and over cooked NY strip. The drinks were very strong, which was good but personally wasn't able to drink it. We waited so long for everything 1.5 hours we asked for it to go before we got the main dishes. Would have been better if we stopped at the appetizers but would rather go elsewhere next time.
The personal is very professional and the ambiente is quiet and very quiet. they can actually talk to their dining room companion. this elk was absolutely amazing. tender, so full of taste. that's only 1/2 in portions, as I shared it with my friend. just amazing.
Spend a night in the strater hotel and inaugurated in mahognany grille. especially. pricy oh yes, but especially. our server was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. our food was fresh, tasty and very kreatiw, especially the appetizer of navajo cornbread. very unconventional, as you can see in my picture, prepared with mais and covered with arugula. my wife had the laughs and I had the trout. my coffee after dinner was an unexpected joyful foam, creamy and a good strong brew. Note that articles are a la carte, no veggies or side of any kind come with their entree. if they want a side with their escape, they have to order it separately. for example, the salmon and trout are served as single pieces.
