We came into Maxwells, and were quickly greeted and sat. We ordered the bread and dips to start, as we thought that would be the quickest way to fill our empty tummies. It was very promptly served, and VERY tasty. The bread was fresh, and the dips included sundried tomato relish, olive tapanade, and beet-root hummus. I will admit, when it was served, not much bread came with it, but we asked for more and it was quickly brought without a problem. As our entree, my husband ordered their steak burger, and I ordered their braised lamb shoulder. The food was AMAZING. The amount of food that came with the lamb shoulder was crazy! I couldn't finish it all. My lamb came with coco bean ragu, broccoli and potatoes. My husbands burger came with some sort of veg relish and home fries. The restaurant its was well decorated, and well placed. It made for some entertaining people watching at the window facing the street on a Saturday evening. The service was great, I never felt rushed or ignored. And even though the restaurant is being remodeled at the time we were there, you couldn't even tell, it still looked great on the inside! I'll definitely be coming back here the next time I'm in Galway.
The BLT had an ample amount of flavorful bacon (called Canadian bacon back home {USA} , shredded lettuce (salad , large slices of White toast, but little to no mayonnaise. I had to layer it on myself. The chips were decent, the hot tea with the brown sugar cream quite fulfilling. The place is well lit clean, with an efficient, professional Waite staff. My meal plus my wife's Goat Cheese n' Chicken sandwich amounted to €20.40, a bit pricey for what we had, but it's right at the end of the popular Spanish Arch shopping/eating/drinking district.
We had a really really (yes, twice for emphasis) good dinner here in Galway. Having teenage boys, we were unfairly excluded from the pubs and the music scene after 8:30 pm local and were referred to Maxwell's for a late dinner. What a stroke of good luck. We were welcomed by the manager/host and given a delicious dinner including a fish stew, a seafood potpie, and some other deliciousness for our boys. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the hospitality and would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone searching out a good meal in Galway. Cheers!
Nice little place. Had the chicken which was very good. Tomato basil soup was outstanding. Nice atmosphere.
If you go for breakfast get the brioche French toast....yum yum yum. Also I loved the no Mimosa, with freshly squeezed orange juice.
