The menu offers some unique options compared to most places, but everything was still delicious. The coleslaw had a nice vinegary flavor and included sesame seeds, while the baked beans were less sweet than usual, which was refreshing. The outdoor seating is plentiful, making it a great spot for families with children. It’s a BYOB place, but I believe they also have a winery that sells wine and beer. It was just too early for us to indulge. They also don’t accept cash anymore.
I'm a transplant to Texas from the Middle West. There are things I love in every place where I live. But when I discovered what was real Texas BBQ, I was firmly committed to the fact that I had to acquire the Pit Master skills for which this state and the Hill Country of Texas is particularly well known. One of the most famous and popular around Austin is the Salt Lick BBQ. I heard the stories, but never went until last night. My wife and I were in the center of Texas for the weekend and we thought we would avoid the rush by going by for a late dinner. When we arrived there, the car park looked like the Disney World car park; as many vehicles. We checked the waiting times and told us an hour and fifty minutes. I thought we had come so far, we could wait just as well. It turns out they opened a table for us in about fifteen minutes. The service and the food were all I heard to be. I was very impressed. I forgot to make pictures of our food. But we also ordered dessert; Blackberries and pancakes. I highly recommend checking this place.
Good mood. Suitable for the family to a little escape. I love the bride, very tender. The pork ribs were rich in smokey taste, but a bit hard for me. Your bbq sauce was great. I wish we could subdue the side beans with other options because we don't really like beans so much. You also have bread, but you have to ask for it.
Wow! What can I say about Salt Lick that hasn't already been said? We stopped by today after hiking at Pedernales Falls, and I was pleased to see some positive changes at the restaurant, such as the acceptance of credit and debit cards—no more cash-only! I ordered my usual Burst-End Brisket (the best in Texas) and tried the Bison Ribs for the first time. I was not disappointed! I also had coke slaw as a side, and it made for a fantastic meal. I had to go home afterward because I was so stuffed. If you visit Salt Lick, you definitely won’t regret it!
Well worth the 960 mile drive from Colorado! Amazing flavor, tender smoked meat. The chicken was my favorite. Eating here has been on my bucket list for many years. Can't wait to return!
