Contribuiți la feedbackSomewhere deep in my unconscious mind, I dreamed of a barbecue restaurant like this and then I discovered it was reality. The food was damn good; if I was being nit picky, and I mean seriously nit picky, the ribs were overly salty—too be expected from a place called the SALT LICK—and the brisket could have been a little more flavorful. But with that being said, INCREDIBLE. The sauces were yummy; the sides were good. In terms of atmosphere, the Salt Lick was a great little spot. The outdoor seating was beautiful; the inside seating was rustic. Loved this place.
Great outside area. Very beautiful. Bar area on exterior is closed off to families with children. You cannot have a beer with your family sitting next to you. Bar waitress very friendly. Bought wine suggested for bbq. Waited for about 25 minutes for table to accomodate 23 people. Service was slow even after manager said group was to be split into servers, for obvious reasons. All the meats were amazing! Potato salad and coleslaw were just totally different than anything you can expect, and not necessarily on a positive note. Potato salad was more like mashed potato with mild cajun seasoning. Cole slaw was sour (possibly vinegar. Beans were okay. Asked for peach cobbler a la mode. It was good but again, made totally different than expected, very mellow sweet flavor with no tartness. Meats are a 10, everything else is okay.
Long wait, cold food and boring sides. The only side worth mentioning is the cole-slaw. The potatoes are horrible and not even worth eating... my brisket was mostly fat, the turkey was alright though pretty dry. Half Chicken was good, in my opinion the pork ribs and pulled pork was the best meat we tried. All in all, I was expecting to be wowed but was served mediocre bbq. I've had better at family functions and church events. I loved the trees and atmosphere but the food needs improvement.
One of Austin’s gems. It is a little out of town which gives an amazing opportunity to see some real Texas country and it’s very scenic.The best part is arguably the atmosphere. The place is HUGE with tons of twinkling lights and stone and outdoor seating as well as inside. There’s often, not always, live music outside. It’s BYOB a plus in my book.The family style all you can eat is the way to go, but adding some turkey is not a bad idea since it is delicious! It comes with sides, bread, continuous plates of meat, pickles, sauces, and you can grab a plate to go. We really love their sausage (best I’ve had in Austin), burnt ends, and turkey. Even though you will be fully stuffed by the end, you gotta at least split some blackberry cobbler.It gets busy on the weekends (2 3 hour wait at its peak) but during the week or earlier in the day (before 3pm) you can often walk right in. It is definitely an event so I’d set aside a few hours to be there, hang out, and of course eat your fill of delicious BBQ. Once you are seated, service is quick. Never had a bad time here!
This is my favorite bbq place in Austin- it’s a great place to bring visitors! The grounds are amazing and completely distract you from a 45 minute wait. The food is so good! Everything! I usually get the pulled pork and brisket plate, but this past weekend my group got the all you can eat family style which is extremely well priced!! The pork ribs are my favorite. Make sure you get the bread too. A few other notes:-indoor and outdoor seating-dog friendly-not vegan friendly-you can watch the meat being cooked-there’s a special Sunday menu-get there before noon on Sundays to avoid the rush/long waits. They open at 11!
