If I lived in Dresden, I would eat at Da Luigi once or twice every month. I had the Grill teller , which was on special, I asked for potatoes cooked other than french fries. I received a large salad, a grilled beef steak, a...grilled pork steak and a grilled turkey steak, along with a large dish of oven baked potatoes in sizzling butter, yum. I couldn't finish the meal, the portion was just too generous. My wife ordered a turkey steak which was covered with ham and mozzarella seasoned superbly and was outstandingly delicious. Our third diner ordered the 4 cheeses penne pasta, huge portion, very rich and he wanted to but couldn't finish it, just too much. We were hosted by a very friendly and welcoming couple, that gave super service.
We saw a report on trip advisor about this restaurant and then stumbled across it while we were staying at the Mercure Hotel Elbepromenade and exploring the area. It is very nice with an outdoor seating area (we went indoors) and a good menu offering...both Pizza and Pasta, also meat and fish dishes. We tried a pasta dish and a pizza which were both excellent, the wines and beers were reasonaly priced.
While riding one of Dresden's many Trams through the city streets, I saw a place called Da Luigi and double-backed on the tram #9 and/or#13). The tram stop is right in front of this restaurant. I'd been jonesin' for some pasta and this placed looked...legit. Ristorante Da Luigi has good furniture, solid wood and large windows. I was the only customer, and thought I'd made a mistake. The friendly waitress seated me and presented the menu. I chose the lasagna and a good dark beer. Soon, a group of about 8, moms with their kids. A couple showed up after that. The lasagna was boiling in its ceramic dish when presented. It took 5 minutes of stirring and creative spoon wielding to get it down to its edible temperature. Luckily, there was tasty bread in the basket, and the beer was fantastic. And, the lasagna was well worth waiting for. Thick noodles with cheese and mushrooms and sausage and a total delight. I paid about 15 euros for an excellent Italian meal, including the beer. Da Luigi also makes Pizza, but I don't know if it delivers. Can't say I'll ever be in Dresden again, but I'd eat here again!
Very beautiful ambiente. very good service. the food was good, in proper portions and to appropriate parlors. that was fun.
