Contribuiți la feedbackI am writing not as a customer, but someone who worked for Paganini as a busser years ago. I will never forget this horrible working experience. I have faced racial discrimination and was a witness to fat shaming, as well as exploitation of the workers. The owner of the restaurant Raouf thought it was ok to call me, and I am quoting, “stupid Russian”. I am not even Russian. I also heard him say to a waitress, “move, you’re too big” (and this is also word for word) when they were standing behind a bar. Needless to say that that same waitress later told me that he often fat shamed her and other girls. Finally, we were made to work way beyond our pay including tips. A job of a waiter and busser is to serve food, take orders, fill in stations, some smaller things sure. But he made us deep clean the restaurant often, including the New Year night after a very hard shift. Needless to say whoever worked night shifts had to clean the restaurant in full every night. That service costs money, but he used our naivety since we were all teenagers. And I am not talking about cleaning the tables. I am talking about vacuuming the whole floor wiping the whole floor. The restaurant is huge and it was honestly hard physical labor that WAS NOT PAID. There was other work too but I don’t particularly remember, but rest assured, we did everything. I was yelled at countless times, I was talked down to, I was constantly verbally disrespected. I did not feel safe working there and quit as soon as I could. But that experience is forever engraved in my memory. Please consider other places that actually respect their workers. Why didn’t I say something sooner? Because I was scared thought that maybe it’s ok to be treated like that. But not anymore. The food is average.
I really like Paganini's. It's one of few places that makes fresh pasta in the area. My mom asked if she could substitute her pasta noodle and the owner explained they didn't have the desired noodle because it's made fresh daily. Everyone in my family likes this restaurant, and they're real foodies with all the great restaurants in their NYC neighborhood. My dad knows and cooks Italian food, and regularly visits restaurants in NYC. One of my family's favorite places is Arthur Ave in the Bronx for the Italian culture/food. So when my dad says he likes this place that's a big deal. I saw some comments on the Bolognese sauce my mom had that with her lasagna. Yes, it does look like a soup but my mom is a picky eater yet she had no complaints. I remember having similar sauces when we visited Sicily one year. Bolognese is one of those dishes that has so many different takes it's all dependent on preference. Additionally, there IS a wood fire pizza oven, I distinctly remember sitting at the table right next to it. I will say, I wish the main dining area on the lower level was more cleaned up. The lights on the walls are horribly dusty it makes me a little uneasy. There's also a lot going on with the structure of this old building, a lot of stone work. So having the random paintings on the wall looks too busy. If they would clean up this area that would be splendid.
Great food, cozy atmosphere, and they unexpectedly fit us in on what seemed to be a very busy night. The service was excellent. Very knowledgeable, kind and attentive waitstaff (even when handling some difficult customers at the table behind us). We’ll be back, especially for the homemade pasta!
We enjoyed the lasagna bolognese and tagliatelle, Agliolio- nice red wine and the tiramisu! My wife I loved the atmosphere and I ate everything!! Fantastic food!
