The pub no longer does food and you can only pay with cash! It appears unloved and on its last legs, with limited offerings. Atmosphere was non existent. It’s on a large plot and would not be surprised if it was knocked down and site redeveloped. We will not return.
Covid update. There's hand sanitiser on the way in. They'll take your order as you enter the bar area and bring your drink to your table. You should wear a mask when not seated. A pint is now 3.40, an eye watering (for a Yorkshireman) 50% increase. They also have a ban on smartphones. They no longer do food
Went for a few drinks with local friends only to shouted at by the bar staff across from the room ‘ oh, get off you phone, it’s not allowed’...... now, if there we’re visable signs telling us this, we may have known. We were not using our phone to call and shout on a call, I was being shown pictures of her son travelling Europe. On the second occasion the so called ‘Land lady’, again shouted across the room ‘get off your phone, you have been told already’. Now if only the bar staff had a little decorum and came over to ask her to get off her phone she would have been told she was on call for her job. A little altercation occurred between my friend, who is on call, and the ‘alleged land lady’ occurred where my friend was accused of being aggressive towards the bar staff and it’s on camera. We then asked where the signs were where, that we are being filmed in accordance with GDPR 2016. I then asked why the guys at the bar were allowed to use their phones, while we, as customers, were singled out. We were then asked to leave and that our drinks would be taken away from us, where I then pointed out that we had bought them and that is illegal.. I’m not going to go into any more fact regarding this antiquated, old fashioned, outdated, pub. The staff need to learn how to respect their customers, realise when there’re singling out customers. Avoid this place plague, no doubt a pub where you’d be accused of sitting in someone’s seat as they always sit there...... The hills have eyes..
The beer was fine; best in the area by a mile. too many pubs nowadays have poor product from new(ish) microbreweries because they are cheaper the established brews have been elbowed for a higher percentage return. the advent of the so-called craft brews whilst vogue does not adequately replace the older established 'proper ' brews
