It’s a family owned restaurant where all food is home made, even the meat is from their own cows. Not only is all the food locally provided, it’s typical dordognese food from outstanding quality! Last September we organised our pre-wedding dinner here for 30 people and it was everything we hoped for! The setting was very romantic as we were sitting outside on long tables. The family was super welcoming and accomodating all our wishes, and above all, our guest had a true taste of all of the good things the region has to offer food wise. If you are looking for a restaurant, that serves typical local food with good quality, I would recommend la Borie Blanche.
After reading all the reviews on TA, we had decided we must try this restaurant. We called into the restaurant and booked 2 days in advance. We arrived on time and no one else was there despite the fact the bookings showed earlier bookings. As the weather had turned cooler, we decided to eat inside which was nicely laid out but only capable of holding 28 people. There are 3 different “menus” available and we both went for the €45 gourmand menu. By then other people were arriving. The first course was a vegetable soup which arrived in a big bowl and you served yourself which was nice enough sufficient for 2 bowls each. Second course consisted of foie gras with toast again nice enough. The main plate we opted for “beef from the farm” rather than confit de canard and this was served with salardaise potatoes. This was probably the most disappointing in that the beef was nothing to write home about and the plate looked rather bare with just the potatoes for company. The dessert consisted of an assiette comprising of 4 or 5 separate mini desserts and this was nice. I also ordered a cafe grand creme which arrived in a big mug but only about a third full not sure why the mug was used. Washed down with a bottle of white Bergerac, our total bill came to just over €110 which for what we had was expensive and definitely not good value for money. The highlight of our visit was the older waitress who despite not speaking any English was great fun. It became hysterical when a family of 6 Americans arrived who couldn’t speak a single word of French. My schoolboy French got us through!
After an enforced absence due to COVID we were delighted to return to La Borie Blanche, where nothing has changed except that Valerie is now la patronne. A good country vegetable soup followed by their own beef steak, succulent and juicy, cooked to perfection. For dessert Valerie’s fresh from the oven strawberry gateau with fromage blanc. All the ingredients are from their farm and truly delicious. Three courses for 19 euros is a bargain and the wines are very reasonably priced too. Booking is essential as this place is very popular.
Rustic lunch, like a hostel. Menu at 20€ a bit like our grandparents: a good soup, a nice meat from the farm with melted potatoes, a local dessert. Every house is better to book because small room!
Lunch in this large garden, very pleasant. A good meat, a walnut dessert, a pleasure. Thank you very much. And good season.
