Unfortunately we had a pretty terrible experience on a rather quiet Saturday night, maybe 1/3 of the restaurant was full. Our server was incredibly inattentive and would disappear for 20 mins or more repeatedly. Our food was all over the place. The carrot appetizer was great, but the pretzel app was incredibly boring for $13. The shrimp and grits looked great but were very disappointing once I started to eat it. The grits were cold and lumpy they also had significant amounts of undercooked grits in it. Our drinks came at completely different times and my wife's coke didn't make it to the table until we were done eating. The server messed up the bill 2x and split it when we didn't ask her to. We had to get a manager to help sort everything else out. The whole experience was such a disappointment and everything took such an agonizingly long time, over 2.5 hours from sitting down to being able to leave. We might try again in a few months and if its better I will update my review. I'm hoping we just had a really off day for the restaurant.
This place was a gem. The atmosphere was great. It was a small menu but just right for conversation and chatting. It was a spacious restaurant with delightful staff. I had the friend green tomato salad (I was so excited about it that I forgot to take a picture) that was delicious. It was a unique salad that had seed, large croutons with hints of mint with the friend green tomato?s on the side. I also had the shrimp and grits. I don?t love grits but I thought I would give it a shot. I was impressed and I?m glad I did. The texture and flavor!!!! I enjoyed my dinner and would recommend.
We went for the happy hour special, $5 smash burger and $5 draft pints. Their restaurant is very nice, and the regular menu looks amazing. If the rest of the food is cooked as well as our burgers, customers are in for a great meal. Bar service was a bit slow and unorganized, the lone bartender could have used some help.
The food at Smith Co is a fantastic, creative mix. Add in beer from Nain Rouge brewery (across the courtyard) and you have a grand slam. Happy hour is especially awesome with $5 smash burgers.
