Selden Standard - Detroit

We made a reservation well in advance and were given a poor location in the restaurant. Noise level is unacceptably loud—it requires shouting. Impossible to read menu or see the food because it's too dark. The food is pretty good and the service is good albeit transactional. It doesn't seem like they're actually interested in creating repeat business and the experience did not feel like a good value overall.

Outstanding food and service. Excellent drinks as well. This is easily one of the best restaurants in Detroit. It is expensive, but you can't get food this good for less. It feels like the people that work their are genuinely happy to be there and serving you. Small parking lot and street parking can be challenging at busy times.

One of the consistently excellent restaurants in the city. The cuisine is inventive, but accessible and always high quality. Staff is attentive but not intrusive. Music is great, vibe is chill. Sitting at the chef's counter is a must. Kudos to the chefs who man the wood fired oven and grill really fun to watch them work. Lighting in main dining area could be a little brighter, but overall love Selden. Going back soon to see what menu brings.

First time at Selden Standard. We sat at the chef's counter (which I highly recommend). The food was outstanding. Everyone involved was cheerful accommodating. We will definitely be back!

First off, food and service were top notch. The selections were unique and delicious beyond my expectations. The reason for the less than 5-star review are two-fold. Our reservation for 2 was at 5pm which is opening time. We arrived via Uber 4 minutes early. Despite rain, the two hosts at the host stand held up 5 fingers to let us know we were to wait outside. I can understand that the doors stay locked until the restaurant opens but we were the only two people waiting and, given the rain, the courteous thing to do would have been to let us wait inside the door. We ordered food and drinks and a bottle of wine. $200 tab plus a tip of $50. At 6:24, our server approached our table, asked if we were having coffee and told us there was a party waiting for our table. It was a Tuesday, no sports teams were playing, and there was no line at the door. We utilized the table for what I presume was less than a minimal amount of time for dining of this caliber. I was disappointed by our server's rushing, especially since she was aware we were downtown for a concert and would be under our own time constraint. I will return because the food was fabulous but I think our experience is worth mentioning.
