The Wheatsheaf - Derbyshire Dales

The two of us ordered the three course lunch menu for £18 each. The first course came and all ok. Tue 2nd course was fish and chips and we thought “wow the fish is big , it was meant to be coujons” we thought no more of it. We had desert with a cup of tea. I paid the bill and walked out. Then realised that the £67 bill should have been about £45. I went back to discuss and the the front of house said that we had the full fish and chips and not the coujons that we had ordered. He said it was the waitresses fault. The front of house guy was French we think and to be honest had a real bad attitude from the moment we walked in. Not very welcoming, snappy and not customer friendly. Rather than get into a big argument that probably would get the waitress into trouble I just walked out. The front of house didn’t even offer to put the matter right or apologise. Very poor customer service. Be assured we will not be returning again and will not advise any of my friends or colleagues to visit either.

We stayed here, impromptu, in our campervan after travelling up from Hull. Decided to stop here as it was dog friendly, which is always beneficial when you've got a Husky... Had lunch at the pub, which was delicious, and so invited family from Derby to join us for an evening meal later that day. Woke up in the morning and came for breakfast, and the staff on duty was absolutely fantastic. He was friendly, approachable, knowledgeable, and hugely hospitable. Nothing was too much of him to ask and he was proactive in everything he did. Will definitely be returning in the future; a perfect overnight stop-off for campers and their families.

I reserved a table for my husband and myself, as i was celebrating my birthday on the past 29th.December 2023. I wanted to eat somwhere special where i thought the food would be good. My husband and i had been previously invited by my cousin and her husband to the Wheatsheaf for lunch last September 2023. It was a saturday and the Wheatsheaf was packed. I think it might have been a bank holiday weekend. We could not get a table, but were told we might get some seats close to the bar, and we would have to order the food ourselves, which we did. We were amazed at how quickly we got our food and it was excellent !!! My husband is difficult to cater for as he has food allergies. I had a ribeye steak cooked to perfection medium rare and my husband had sirloin steak cooked to perfection very well done . My husband even congratulated the chef. I was really looking forward to my birthday evening meal, but to my dismay, it wasn't to be. We were taken to a table with no lighting, so i could not read the menu properly. We were quickly moved to a better table after asking. Another two couples came in after us and both got served quickly and they left before us. We were still waiting for an hour to be served, and it wasn't even busy !!! When it finally came, my meal was almost cold sirloin steak with king prawns in batter . I admit the prawns were nice as they were hot.I had to send the steak and chips back to be warmed up, but when it came back the sirloin steak was chewy and i did not enjoy it at all. I was not even asked how i would like my steak. We both noticed that the floor was dirty with spilt food and a table that had not been cleared up. Waiters just walked over it and ignored the table. My birthday was marred by this experience. Before all this, i was even thinking about coming back again to try something else on the menu, but i don't think i will be doing now. We were given a 20% discount as an apology for the wait, but it did not make up for the bad service and the quality of my meal.

Went for New Year’s Eve. Perfectly located for amazing walks. Had a fantastic 3 course meal and little unexpected disco. Parked campervan free of charge. The staff and owners were so friendly and accommodating could not have done more, also had breakfast which was also fab and all very reasonable priced. Will definitely go back. Lovely place

We had an incredible mixed grill at this restaurant, it was perfect! The atmosphere was great, very dog-friendly, and the staff was welcoming. We enjoyed our visit so much that we returned on Sunday to try the roasts, but they were sold out. I ended up trying the signature burger instead, and it was delicious. Thank you to The Wheatsheaf for a wonderful experience.
