To all you folks in NC from a Via Emilia regular from New York: you have absolutely no idea how lucky you are and how much we miss William’s cooking. His New York restaurant was our go-to Italian for many years (and that’s something, given the embarrassment of choice for Italian in NYC), and the food the ambiance the whole thing was always amazing. This place has an Italian name and tries to be an Italian restaurant. The Italian dishes are a failure, not even close to being near authentic, three beers on the menu.Maybe they will improve but for now save your money and try somewhere else. Steve
My wife and I bought take out from Mattiello’s last night, March 20. The menu is northern Italian. She had the mixed greens salad and Tagliolini al Pesto. Nice salad, not all iceberg. The thin egg noodles are made in house. The pesto was not the creamy style, thank goodness, and had diced potatoes and string beans mixed in. It seemed a little unusual, but tasted great. I had a Caesar salad and Farfalle al Salmone (bow tie pasta, smoked salmon, asparagus with a light cream sauce). The food was very tasty. The servings were large enough that we will get a second meal. Freshly toasted pita chips were included, so having some hummus on hand works well. If ordering to take out, pass on the French fries as they do not travel well in a sealed take-out container. Cannot comment on the service beyond the food was ready when we requested. These are trying times. Prices were reasonable. Mattiello’s is definitely a positive addition to the Denver scene.
