The Great Grand Pa Cafe - Dehra Dūn

We were fairly late for dinner and various nearby places were closed. Luckily they were open and served some of the diners already. The menu was limited (at 11 pm) I think it was more than enough. We had karayi panner and some tawa roties. Everyone enjoyed the food. The decor is very personalized with family photos and seating from car tires. They also made local chocolates. If you're close, give them an attempt.

Suoer sweet, ingenious mood here and delicious chocolates! A little expensive, maybe it was nice to have a discount when you buy several chocolates?

Very good food and service. Although the dishes are somewhat overpriced, they are worth it for service and ambience.

The café is very small, but as I mentioned earlier, the interiors are very colorful. The two sides of the café are covered with mirrors and give this small room the illusion of being big. Must say very intelligent thinking of the interior. The recycled tires were used to make furniture and painted colorfully. Also, loved how they used old, long lost things in quirky way (I tried to capture some). The third wall of the cafe is beautifully covered with pictures that were reminded of the owners grandpa (which is how this place got its name) and also paired with a high table for two seating systems. As far as food is concerned, I had no great expectations with this place. I expected it to be ok, but this place really surprised me. I ordered- Dry fruit milkshake Pasta Masala tea sandwich All tasted nice and the prices are quite decent. They also have breakfast (e.g. poha) and thali as well. I don't remember seeing these things on the menu when I visited. I think they have added new things to the menu. Go back to try your breakfast or Thiali menu. So if you're in the area, you don't have much time to go all the way to Rajpur street, but looking for a good place with good food, this is the place for you.

Usually most cafes are either somewhere near Rajpur road or in some calm, serene part of the city. But this cafe, is right on one of the most busiest and traffic filled road right opposite Jain Dharamshala (lies in between railway station and prince chowk! wut? Yes, that's exactly what my reaction was at first and then I got curious. One fine day when one of my friend wanted to visit a new place, but not far from my place, I just knew where to take her.
