We stopped in for late lunch. My stepson ordered a pulled pork type sandwich and I had two sausages on Texas toast with fries covered in Bacon cheese. All hot and tasty. The boy wolfed down the sandwich and told me it was the best he'd ever had. Goodprice and friendly service. Highly recommend. (Also ordered cake and brought that back home, too full)
I ordered the city sampler and found the brisket to be slightly dry and the sausage rather bland. However, the chicken was unexpectedly tender and juicy. Unfortunately, the sauces seemed too similar to one another. The green beans tasted canned, and the cornbread was disappointing as well. On a positive note, the staff was friendly, and the corn pudding was quite good.
So far, both of my experiences have been significantly better than my visit to Real Urban Barbecue. While I can't speak to their barbecue methods, they clearly prioritize what really matters: great food. I tried their chipotle BBQ sandwich and pulled pork sandwich, both of which looked absolutely fantastic. Eating the chipotle BBQ sandwich is reminiscent of Homer Simpson trying the ribwich for the first time—you'll end up with BBQ sauce all over your shirt and immediately crave another bite. The sides feel a bit like an afterthought, but it's tough to compete with such impressive main dishes. Their chocolate cake is also rich and satisfying. The layers aren’t as sweet as your typical grocery store cake, but the icing definitely reminds you that it's a dessert.
I ordered a side of beans for $3.99 and pudding for $1.99, and I confirmed both prices. However, I was confused when I didn’t receive the beans, and the pudding was suddenly $4.99. There's no way I would pay that much for a small cup of pudding. Please double-check your order before leaving! It might be that the pudding is indeed $4.99, but what happened to the beans? Perhaps the staff member forgot to ring them up. She did say they were $3.99. As for the beef brisket, it was just okay.
