Starbucks has nothing on this beautiful little gem, in the heart of Daufuskie 's Historic District. Brian and Pam will make you feel like old friends from the moment you go to the door. They have a wide selection of coffee drinks and use high-quality coffee, tea and hot chocolate products. (If you're really lucky, you have a chance to try some Pam cookies... but don't take too long because they're going fast! The School Grounds Coffee Shop is located at the back of the historic Mary Fields School, built by WPA. Now as the center of the island (and also the apartment of the fascinating Daufuskie Blues indigo Shop, while you immerse your coffee, you can hear about the history of the school where Pat Conroy taught and later wrote The Water is Wide based on his experience as a Daufuskie teacher of Gullah children. Visitors should not miss this opportunity to mix with local islanders, learn about the true Daufuskie, and after just a visit to feel like a regular guest where everyone knows your name. This is a unique discovery that should be absolutely missed if you are happy enough to visit beautiful Daufuskie. (Photos by Tour Daufuskie; Mary Fields School of Holger Operderbeck.
Very nice young man who serves the counter, very knowledgeable. Long live school grounds coffee!
That was the favorite place of my 14 yr old son! Their baked goods are too-the-for tasty, and their frappy ice cream coffees always meet the place! My 12-year-old told them, “If I were old enough to have a phone, I would give you all 5 stars!” Thank you for such great treats and such a great customer service - the best on the island!
Great coffee! We were told it was better then Starbucks and it didn't disappoint.
