Modern Orchid - Dartmouth

I give this restaurant 3 stars because they did not mark their vegan options, but the food was excellent! They offer a few vegetable dishes that can be made vegan. I ordered the cashew nut tofu veggies with rice and a veggie spring roll, and it was delivered quickly and was delicious! The sauce was great and the portion size was generous. The restaurant itself is average, nothing too fancy. However, I do have a complaint - they had rodent glue traps on the floor near the table, which is ethically and hygienically concerning. Overall, the food was really good though.

I had heard great things about this restaurant and called ahead to confirm they had vegan options. The person I spoke to was very knowledgeable and helpful. So, I chose Modern Orchid for lunch with a group. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. Our server seemed to be unfamiliar with veganism, despite my explanations. When I asked if a vegetable dish was vegan, he initially said yes, but then confirmed it contained fish sauce or shrimp paste. When I requested plain rice noodles with vegetables, I was told I could only have plain rice. Another member of my group tried to order pad Thai without the combo but was also refused. The food we eventually received was overly salty and unsatisfying. Overall, I would not recommend Modern Orchid if you want to avoid frustration and uncertainty about hidden animal products in your meal.

Do not let the negative reviews keep you away from this place! Service is a bit iffy but they are polite. Could literally eat a tables worth of their dumplings! Red curry was very well done as well.

Terrific! The service is fast and the staff courteous. It's one of the only places in Dartmouth Crossing I can go for lunch and be able to eat and get back to my office in time.  I love their food!

I ate here for the first time on Friday night, the service was great, the place is clean, and the food was very fresh and tasty.I am very fussy about Asian restauraunts, but have to say....can't wait to eat there again. The prices are also good.
