Frankie’s Beans operates both as a cafe and specialty roaster and supplies coffee to several cafes across Sydney. They also invented the ‘Komboffee’ the love child of cold brewed coffee and kombucha (pictured). Served chilled and on ice, it’s the perfect way to get your caffeine fix in summer. Komboffee is also sold at coffee shops around Australia.<br/ <br/ It goes without saying that the coffee at Frankie’s Beans is very, very good. The piccolo latte I had was smooth and not that burnt aftertaste that you usually get with coffees in Sydney. <br/ <br/ Now let’s talk about the food. Frankie’s Beans have a great selection of breakfast dishes including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. The highlights for me were the wild mushrooms on toast (pictured) and the vegan poached pear porridge (pictured). The food were really good and the owner is really kind. As they have healthy options for food. And the best thing from them is coffee! The coffee is really good, and i do really love with their kombufee (kombucha coffee)
The coffee machine – a white Sanremo Opera – looks like something out of the Thunderbirds. The logo has been burned into the custom-finished wood front. It’s the centerpiece of this stylish café newcomer, as it should be – Frankie’s Beans Specialty Coffee Roasters are serious about coffee. Perched on the side of The Elan the café makes good use of an oddly-shaped space. The well-lit barista and kitchen area is nicely framed using a white ceiling a row of spotlights. The lower-lit seating area keeps some height, and uses theatrical technique to keep your eyes on the barista, by painting all the fixtures black. After placing an order at the counter, we pull up some banquette and an ergonomic Scando-style wooden chair; finally slowing enough to appreciate the finer details. Below our feet are shiny polished concrete floors. In one corner a stylish Gramovox vertical record player is spinning vinyl (with less chance of damaging it); while on another wall there’s a white coffee grinder with shiny copper fittings. Walking up William St towards the Kings X coke sign, a landmark that defines the area, we cross the road and veer to the right as we are headed for our destination, Frankie’s Beans. Being in the Cross, the name could mean anything, thankfully for us it refers to coffee. With two highly rated cafes on the bean hunter App, ‘Frankie’s Beans’ and ‘cafe with out a name’, we had to check this place out. We arrived at the cafe, looking back down William St, this cafe perched on the hill has a good outlook of the city skyline. Inside the cafe, it has a modern Scandi theme, with light coloured wood and hanging indoor plants. There is plenty of coffee paraphernalia to keep you distracted. We meet the friendly Frank and select a table outside and take in the view before ordering.
In Short: Frankie’s Beans Specialty Coffee Roaster in Darlinghurst Sydney combines a passionate artisan, a single-minded focus on producing exceptional coffee, and letting the best ingredients shine through. Any serious coffee connoisseur has to put the F.A.B. extraction on their bucket list.
