Had a nice time at brunch here. Pastries were delicious. Good service. I had a fairly basic dish of eggs with potatoes and bacon but it definitely hit the spot. Solid cocktails as well.
A wonderful spot. I've been to their old location for brunch many years ago and loved it, was super excited to try the new location for dinner!
Purely commenting on dinner service; I think the main draw for this place is breakfast/ brunch. Located on Jefferson’s campus, the place has no control over the dead area where it sits but the interior ambiance is somewhere between contractor colors and shabby chic. Service was fine and as nondescript as the location. The food was the big let down: the menu was an amalgamation of different items, none of which paired with each other. The presentation varied greatly from dish to dish. Each item tasted *almost* amazing it felt like everything was on the cusp of greatness but was missing a certain something every so often you’d have a bite and it would be “wow” worthy but it was so fleeting it felt like I imagined it. The cocktails were outstanding and the after dinner cappuccino was perfect. The entire premise feels like it is still in the beta testing phase. However, the pricing reflects having a cogent experience, which it is not. Philadelphia is rife with outstanding dining experiences. For now, dinner here is a hard pass. The best thing I think would be for this place to move (West Philadelphia or the suburbs) and become a cozier tapas style place.
I recently dined at a high street restaurant, and I have to say, it was a thoroughly disappointing experience. The restaurant tries way too hard to be fancy, but it fails spectacularly. The menu was incomprehensible—honestly, I couldn’t understand three words in a row. When the food finally arrived, it was a major letdown. It wasn’t just that it didn’t taste good; it was also overpriced with portions that were insultingly small. However, the worst part of my experience was the customer service. The staff were neither friendly nor helpful. To top it all off, they automatically charged a 20% gratuity for our party of four. This mandatory tip for such terrible service felt like a slap in the face. This is what happens when you enforce gratuity on the check—you end up with a terrible, terrible experience. Save your money and your sanity—do not eat here. It’s way overpriced, the food is subpar, and the service is the worst I’ve encountered in a long time.
