La Casona Del Cuy - Cusco

The restaurant is about 40 minutes by car from the city of Cusco. The location is badly marked in the travel advice card!!!! We were not there in the end, so I can't write the review of the food. I just want you to know and not do the same mistake I made.

After reading the other reviews about La Casona Del Cuy, my wife and I decided to try. At first I was very hesitant to try cuddly (or guinea pigs) because as an American guinea pigs are mainly considered pets and while I have never grown up, I still think they are very sweet. However, when visiting the main cathedral in Cusco we saw a version of the last meal. In the middle was a plate of Cuy. So I said to me, if it was good enough for Jesus, then it's enough for me. The restaurant is located directly on the main road through Tipon. There are many similar restaurants serving cuy in the area so make sure you enter the right one. The tables are placed in the central courtyard on the lawn and the wood stove (pizzeria oven) is on one side. There is no menu, the only choice you get is what you want to drink and how many kisses you want. My wife and I ordered one to share, but most of the locals ordered one per person. The dish is served with a bed of pasta and potatoes, so it was quite filled. The meat is very delicate, the skin beautiful and crispy. The taste is somewhere between chicken, pork and rabbit. There is a very light gaminess on the meat normally I don't like playful tasting meat, but this is quite delicious. If I have the opportunity to visit Peru again, I will definitely come back here to have more cuddly. Ask for Rodrigo speaks excellent English and very happy to help.

We found this place by chance and it was a maravilla.con a patio at the front. lemonade and delicious cold drinks. the guinea pig, which was fresh and tasty. Friendly service...

I visited this restaurant while I was in Cusco about to go on a trek. I knew that guinea pig was a common food in Peru so I wanted to get some prepared in the traditional way. Another tourist told me about this place where you could get really fresh guinea pig. I loved the guinea pig- a real surprise since I didn't know what you expect! The staff were really friendly as well. A great place for your first cuy!

I don't always eat Cuy... but when I do I prefer La Casona Del Cuy. Excelent, staff very friendly and courteous. Seriously only had a few cuy in my time but this one is the best!
