Contribuiți la feedbackHaving lived in Cuernavaca for 30 years and dining at almost every restaurant in town — from tacos in the calle to the most exclusive restaurants in the city, I can honestly say that the visit to Restaurant Vienes this morning was the worst experience to date the three of us. While the restaurant has many features to rave about, the service left much to be desired. We ordered coffee all around, with one coffee with cream. We received milk in lieu of cream and when it was poured into the coffee, it was determined to be spoiled, ruining the coffee. When we informed the waiter the milk was spoiled and that we had asked for cream, he picked up the milk and returned with a package of instant Coffeemate. We then had to inform him that now the coffee was ruined by the spoiled milk and asked for a fresh coffee. He took the coffee to the wait station and poured it out and then poured fresh coffee in the same cup before returning it to the table. Unbelievable! Although, the restaurant was empty when we arrived at 9 a.m. for breakfast, the food was delivered in individual trips from the kitchen to the table, despite that each serving was on a single plate. After the first plate was delivered, we waited another 5 minutes for the second person 's plate. We caught the eye of what we assumed was the head waiter and explained that the first two plates were getting cold as we waited for the third plate. He went off to the kitchen without a word. Then we waited almost 15 minutes for the third person to be served, which meant that the first two orders were cold when the third was delivered. This would be totally unacceptable in any restaurant. The coffee refills were served tepid and when we informed the waiter of the fact, he immediately brought hot coffee, leaving us to wonder why they would serve tepid coffee if they had hot coffee. After that, the waiter reacted to the poor service by avoiding his return to the table. To make matters worse, not once did the waiter or head waiter respond with an apology at any time. While, perhaps we can only blame the poor service on the wait staff, the owner who was present made no attempt to visit the table to inquire if all was well, which is quite common in Cuernavaca. Now, you may be thinking, perhaps as the wait staff assumed that we were Pinche Gringo tourists who expect too much and are too demanding. The truth is that while I am originally from the USA, my dining companions were a Mexican businessman and a female who is a Mexican attorney with the State of Morelos who offices nearby and has been to the restaurant many times in the past. We discussed the situation and decided that not only will we not return to the restaurant, but that we would not recommend the restaurant to others. Upon our departure, the businessman informed the waiter why he did not receive a tip for the poor service. The waiter simply raised his hands palm up without a word of apology, adding insult to the injury of the situation. So, yes, it was the worst service in Cuernavaca. Hopefully, the owner will see this and do something to improve the situation for other diners.
For a great lunch right downtown this is the place to go. They have several lunch 'comida ' specials which include soup, rice and 3 or 4 choices for a main dish, dessert and a fruit drink for about $4 US. They have a couple of other luncheon specials going up to about $10 US or you can choose from the menu. They still have some of the dishes the Vienese couple who started the restaurant served. Now it is owned by a Spanish couple so they now have 'fabada ' and paella on the menu. They have always been known for their cakes, so be sure to try a slice of one. Service is excellent.
This Mexican restaurant, right in the center of town, serves delicious German food! Our dinners were around 110 pesos (less than $10) and for that we had soup (chicken and vegetable, excellent) a main course with potatoes and vegetables, bread, wonderful coffee and dessert!
