We came across Fonda la Parilla Argentina while wandering around hungry. Had looked at other places and checked their menus, and this one finally appealed. Charming doorway on the outside, but the windows were marred by cheesy signage advertising the Valentines Day special. (Guess you can’t fault then for trying to drum-up business for that night. It would be a great choice for a romantic dinner – a warm and charming ambiance – white table cloths, polite waiters, Argentinian music playing – but not too loudly. Everything from the grill was rescued from the flames at the perfect moment. We started with a shared plate of sweetbreads – a treat for lovers, if claims of their aphrodisiac qualities can be believed. They hadn’t been processed as in more refined cuisine. Some connective tissue was still there, but we didn’’t mind playing with our food a bit to enjoy their luscious richness. My husband ordered the salmon with coriander sauce. It was cooked the way he loves it – slightly crisp on the edges, but barely cooked on the inside. The sauce did not overwhelm, the dish was juicy and savory. A baked potato on the side, garnished with bacon and sour cream, completed the meal. I had the grilled chicken breast with plenty of chimicurri sauce – minced parsley, garlic, olive oil, other herbs. It was excellent. The serving was large enough to fill a big guy, but so good, I couldn’t leave any behind. The only disappointment of the meal were the frozen French fries. But the good part about that – we polished off all of the protein, and left the carbs on the plate. Although we opted for beer, we noticed the wines were very reasonably priced.
The place is not so nice, it´s like 20/30 years when the fists Argetinians came to Mexico. But, the meat and other dishes are excelent, such as Provoletta and Caprese salad
The interior is very dated. I ordered the beef ribs as I am a great fan of them. Beef ribs need to be slow cooked to make them tasty and easy to eat. These were barely cooked and extremely tough, making them very difficult to eat. Some of the choices other diners had looked much better
La aparencia de este lugar me imagino les pierde clientes, si dejas de juzgar lo de afuera, a gran sorpresa...More
