The pork belly was surprisingly lean and flavorful, though slightly dry—adding the apple sauce helped enhance it. My wife had the queen scallops, which were also cooked to perfection, with a crispy exterior. The sauce had a nice kick that contrasted well with the delicate prawns. For the main course, the venison was exquisite—tender and succulent in the center, with a beautifully caramelized exterior. The dauphinoise potatoes were rich and creamy, and the jus was flavorful. For dessert, we enjoyed a generous portion of rhubarb crumble served with ice cream and custard. It was both sweet and refreshing. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming throughout our visit.
I had a wonderful experience at the Durham Ox. I stayed in the Blue Room, which was cozy, clean, and beautifully presented. It was well-equipped with everything needed for a short stay. My stay included dinner, bed, and breakfast. The food was outstanding, and the sticky toffee pudding was the best thing I've eaten in years. The staff was friendly and extremely attentive. I will definitely be back!
I've never written a review before, but I feel compelled to share my experience at this amazing place. The food and drinks are exceptional, and the service is impeccable. I visited on a Friday night with my dog, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. The food was delicious, and I highly recommend trying the cocktails—the bar is fantastic. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, embodying everything you could want in a great pub. Thank you to everyone at Ochsen!
We thought that the prevailing prejudices, but eating, service and the environment are very good. starter of avocado and Pea/Peashoot, sun-dried toms salat with other beautiful things was well balanced. the 'sizzling' prawns were breast-painted in oil with pfeffers and had them ever sizzled it was long before their arrival on the table. accompanying flatbreads were two slices pizza base (full with passata.) unexpected. mains were whole dover sole, which was very good and queen scallops, who unfortunately with their two-cheese partners baked firmly to their shells, so I would not have tensed a third of the schirrs would have gone back into the kitchen. Lemon fair was light and the sticky toffee was excellently paired with a good ice cream. the wee was too expensive. with a veritable bottle bench with cheap prosecco type empty fizz bottles in any direction (jaup, partly laced labels leave sticky spots on the candle holders, tap water bottles and ' bottle displays' not lined up the astoria branding) it looked like a hoarders paradies.
Had a beautiful Sunday roast here today. Highly recommend the lamb Lovely, attentive staff.
