You must order the corn bread for the table.. seriously.. even if you are eating alone, order it for the table and take the rest home.. You 're welcome! We shared a gazpacho and the corn bread as starters, and had a hash and a pork with biscuit thingy. Oh, and a side of bacon. Seriously, that bacon is the reason I could not go vegetarian. Service was attentive and really friendly. The chef showed us the gigantic cast iron pan where the cornbread was made. The owners were there and they were just lovely people! They take Open Table reservations and there is plenty of street parking.
We had a late dinner here for New Years Eve. To start, I asked for a recommendation on a specialty cocktail letting our server know I do not enjoy sweet cocktails, but rather prefer ones that taste more like a Manhattan. She recommended the Generation Gap, and what a great recommendation it was. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy the taste, but the visual of one extra large smooth ice cube in the center of the glass with the drink surrounding the bottom of it made for quite a presentation. We thoroughly enjoyed a meat and cheese board as an appetizer (over 3 weeks later and my wife says it was the best cheese board she has ever had). Our mains were might tasty as well; I had the scallops and she had the vegetarian entree. The only complaint/suggestion would be to swap out the daikon radishes in the scallop dish for something else (neither of us cared for that side). We had no room for dessert, so can't comment there.
Sunday brunch travel tradition. Whenever we are leaving Asheville to travel back to Atlanta we stop at The Junction. Amazing creative Southern in a warm and friendly space. The staff is really good and I know how hard it is to accommodate folks on a busy Sunday brunch. They go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Must try the cornbread because that is simply amazing. The rest of the menu is also worth exploring. I've tried a variety of dishes and have always left happy. Adequate parking on street behind if you can't find a spot out front. A short hop from downtown Asheville. Definitely do reservations especially with more than two. The great food makes it more and more popular.
Had a very nice meal at The Junction a couple of nights ago. My wife and I opted to share several plates to get a broader taste of the menu. I started with the In the Year 1903 cocktail. It consisted of Bulleit Bourbon, Gran Gala, Aperol, Angostura Peychaud bitters, sugar cube and bubbles. It was good but the (over)abundance of ingredients made the flavor a bit muddled. There is a reason classic cocktails have only 2-3 ingredients. From the small plates we had the gnocchi, pork belly, and chicken livers. Each had something a bit special that I will remember. The gnocchi was well complemented by the beets and fennel, the pork belly by a cayenne frozen custard, and the chicken livers by stewed apples (the fois gras torchon on the chicken livers was nothing special btw). We also ordered the sweet tea brined fried chicken, which was delicious. I wish I would have tried the beef heart tartare but was too chicken. We finished with the key lime pie for dessert. The pie itself was good but it was served with a banana sauce that I found offputting. i don 't like bananas much anyway, but I didn 't find the banana to pair well with the key lime. Like the cocktail, not every update on a classic works perfectly. But I respect the efforts at this restaurant and the highs outweighed the lows here. Service was attentive. i was initially worried because our server was also tending bar, but she managed to keep the food flowing and our water glasses full. When another server initially put down my water, some spilled. I initially thought he didn 't notice but soon enough he was back to wipe it up. I appreciated that level of attention to detail throughout the meal.
It was another Sunday brunch and I was craving the Junctions Egg Frittata. And as usually I wasn't disappointed. I just love this staff....very friendly. Sunday Brunch folks.........RAD style!
